Stats wise he certainly is but I rate the other 3 much higher.

Stats wise he certainly stacks up, and is quite impressive. The other 3 had longevity as well though (less so Lara) - Tendulkar played 200 tests, and Ponting 160 odd.

They were the top batsmen for a very long time in a reasonably strong era of test cricket... and aesthetically very pleasing to watch.

Thought the Windies would have worked out that these two don't mind it on leg stump by now...

They're just trying to give themselves something decent to chase down.

They were text book, you knew when they came to the crease that they will be there for some time.

Smith is a bit of a flash in the pan, unorthodox with an amazing eye, I think the way that Smith improved over time was brilliant, it was like no other.

Over 8000 test runs @ an average of 60 suggests he's slightly more consistent than a flash in the pan

Yeah, my wording was off the mark, I meant by the way he came in and went bang with a unique batting style.

You obviously know what i mean when i stated that as you have used it in the right context.

Only difference being no country cricketer is as nervous, serious and fidgety as Smith. ;)

Smith defies any formal coaching manual, he looks like a kid that was 'self taught'. Plays in ridiculous areas.

As good as the Aussies have been, how bad are the Windies.
They just lack any real effort.

When do we declare?
