His 30 was still crucial though. He came in when the score was 62 and left at 174. Had we had any other player outside the XI playing instead of Smith last night, we would have lost.

Leave the team the same. It is clearly the best XI. Green is out of form unfortunately. Stoinis will never stand up in a big game. Abbott and Carey are just spares.

Bat first and hope 2 of Warner/Head/Marsh get going and we're a big chance.

India have dominated everything before them and go in massive favourites, but this Aussie team seems to find a way.

I respect your opinion but don’t agree with it, I just don’t think them two at 3 & 4 is a good thing.

Stoinis has had an average tournament but I think he has bailed us out of the shit enough times in his career to not lose faith.

Whoever the XI is I will 100% support, Smith & Lab are both capable of run a ball hundreds, I’d love to see them both do that and shut me up.

Pound for pound our best is as good as it gets, just need everyone firing on the same day to knock these guys off, form is temporary, talent is permanent.

The Rig, Marcus Stoinis.
Geez I was excited when in his 2nd ODI for Aust he belted the Kiwis all over the park, 146 off not many. He also took 3 fa that game. The future was bright.

Since then, he's appeared another 68 times for Australia. Never taken a 3 fa, and never made a 100 since.

Infact, since April 2019, so the last 4 & 1/2 years, he hasn't made a 50.
You need to roll back some 45 matches to find the last time he raised the bat.

In his last 44 matches, he's averaged 17.38 with the bat and 40.07 with the ball.

Unfortunately that glimpse we saw back in 2017 never returned.

Australia are certainties , provided they listen to everything Matt Hayden and Ricky Ponting will no doubt say
Australia to bat first make 0/1000[50]
India to bat second and make zero [1.4]
Should India bat first they will make zero , Australia would need 1 ball to win the World Cup

Doesn't Cummins always call tails? Makes it easier to have the obverse side facing up upon landing (assuming he calls as the away/'away' captain)

Great stuff Trader, he's continually picked on potential the last four years amd a half year and success is clearly not happening for him.
I've mentioned his weakness against spin on here before, Stoinis averages 17 against left arm spin and 18.40 against all spin, career average is 27.03.

All good mate, I was listening to Jarrod Kimbers daily World Cup podcast earlier and the question was asked to him about how Stoinis had remained in the team despite not performing as shown in the stats Trader posted. His answer was based around Australia have had a lack of pace bowling allrounder options to select over him (Marsh not being available/being able to bowl, Green only recently debuting in team/not initially performing that well to be selected over Stoinis). With Stoinis being 34 Australia might now look past him heading towards to next ODI World Cup cycle and guys like Green and Hardie will be preferred.

Nothing wrong with having an opinion.
My mates still rib me for questioning why the strikers picked up a 19 year old called Neser. Turns out he's better than a b-grade district hack. :D

In the unfortunate situation where he plays, I'll be very happy for Stoin to come out and prove you right tonight!

The only time Smith and Marnus are a liability is if we are off to a flyer and looking on course for a run feast.

I hope that becomes an issue....

They both have the ability to score quickly, they’re just too cautious and pride themselves on not getting out, I’d at least split them up and not have them 3 & 4. Smith has an amazing eye and array of shots when he’s on, Lab has shown he can score at over a run a ball.

Your call on Stoinis is a fair one Lightning McQueen. His value is being able to hit 30 off 15 balls and play a role with the ball, including at the death. That is why he can afford to have his own personal chef on tour with him. He is perfectly suited to the T20 stuff and if we got off to a flyer with two of Warner/Head/Marsh and subs were a thing, you'd sub him in for one of Smith or Marnus because he'd likely bat you to a higher target, plus he is good with the ball and excellent in the field.

However, the chances of two out of those top three getting going against the Indian attack are unlikely and under pressure in the middle overs from the likes of Jadeja, I'd back in Smith and Marnus to get us to something our bowlers have a chance to defend.

He cottoned on to that - calling heads...don't really know if batting or bowling will matter, but by bowling first it negated the correct call as that is what Rohit would have liked. Same team as the semi final.

Stats are team chasing wins.

Only 1 team won batting first and that was Aus v eng

Knock over Rohit and Kohli early and it will be game on. Gill has been able to sit back and taker no risks with Rohit scoring so quickly as well, need to get pressure on him. Need to get the middle order in early and build pressure And FFS dont bowl short crap to Rohit, shes out the park if you do

If they let Rohit get away and India get off to a flyer as has happened throughout the tournament its pretty well game over

Anyway i need to get a taxi or Uber home to watch the start :D

That's in Australian matches only isn't it - I don't know if that matters in Indian matches, cause they win on the bit either way
