Dear Member
With the 2013/14 domestic fixtures due to be released this week, I have today advised Cricket Australia that Adelaide Oval is not expected to be first-class ready, due to the ongoing building works in the line of sight at the southern and north-eastern grandstands during October.
The integrity of the game is SACA’s number one priority, and that’s why I have made the decision to inform Cricket Australia that we are unable to host matches at Adelaide Oval during October. SACA has commenced negotiations with Gliderol Stadium, and former Adelaide Oval curator Les Burdett has been approached to prepare the outfield and centre wicket.
It also means SACA is unable to host the final of the Ryobi One Day Cup at Adelaide Oval on October 27, should the West End Redbacks finish top of the ladder in that format.
Player and spectator facilities at Gliderol Stadium are of a high standard and are easily accessible by public transport. SACA Members will be offered exclusive seating and dining at Gliderol Stadium, and there is ample parking at the oval.
SACA Membership Services will send more information out to all members prior to the game in relation to dining and match day information. I want to assure you that the West End Redbacks’ Bupa Sheffield Shield campaign is incredibly important to us, and I am not going to allow anything to jeopardise that. I don’t believe it is acceptable for players in a first-class match to have building works continuing in the south, as well as some in the north, right behind the bowlers’ arm.
This is not a decision I have taken lightly. We have never moved a Sheffield Shield match away from Adelaide Oval, and it is only happening because I want to ensure that players have the best conditions to play under. For us at the moment, that is likely to be at Gliderol Stadium.
