The Emerging Redbacks Program

Postby Coach Bombay » Tue Jun 10, 2014 12:49 pm

The Emerging Redbacks Program

The first Emerging Redbacks squad was named in early October 2011 and trains under the watchful eye of program coach, former Australian coach Tim Nielsen.

Tim Nielsen

The Emerging Redbacks Program is designed to mirror the Redbacks on a reduced scale with the states most talented, un-contracted cricketers being invited to join the Program, (including Grade cricketers as well as ‘above the line’ youth players).

The Program was developed by SACA to attempt to address the gap between Grade cricket and First-class cricket that has been steadily widening since the early 1990’s. It will see the establishment of an elite talent identification system supported by complementary competition and training systems.

Establishing the Emerging Redbacks Program is a step closer to maximising South Australia’s talent development pathway and is therefore a step closer to permanently improving the number of home-grown players in the Redbacks and Australian teams.

2014/15 Emerging Redbacks squad:

Akash Patel (Glenelg)
Alex Carey (Glenelg)
Cameron Valente (Adelaide)
Cameron Williams (Northern Districts)
Elliot Opie (Kensington)
Harry Nielsen (Woodville)
Isiah Borgas (Northern Districts)
Jack Pudney (Glenelg)
Jake Weatherald (Glenelg)
Joel Garrett (Glenelg)
Joel Hoffman (Port Adelaide)
Joel Logan (University)
Luke Robins (East Torrens)
Nick Benton (Port Adelaide)
Nick Clayfield (Glenelg)
Peter George (West Torrens)
Phil Neate (Adelaide)
Sam Miller (Prospect)
The death penalty can never be excused as it allows a state a means by which it can pick and choose who is fit to live and who isnt

Why would Peter George be in this squad?

Thought he may have been picked up by another State when he missed Contract with Redbacks.

All contracts are done and dusted, so maybe if we cop a few injuries he is first to be looked at for a replacement.

Expect him to lead the 2nd XI attack this coming season.

A decent contingent of Glenelg players in the program, what effect will this have (if any) on Glenelg this season?

Could be more if some of the rumours floating about turn out to be on the money......

This squad is basically the list to pick the 2nd XI games from so the commitment is during the week....

Do they not all have to play in the premier league games as well? Or is that being scrapped this season? :?

Peter George off to Queensland with no guarantee he will get a game with the Bulls:

Despite his exit, George insisted he did not hold any grudges towards the South Australia Cricket Association, and that he was optimistic of making a comeback under the guidance of the Queensland coach Stuart Law. Though George has no guarantees of a contract with Queensland, he has been invited to train with the squad and play in the team's pre-season matches.

fair enough, good luck to him.

i really rated him as a bowler too, but i dont think he would take the spot of sayers, richardson or putland, assuming we even play 3 seamers, and with mennie and lawford we also have great depth.

different situation to harris who was forced to leave because of petty contract negotiations by saca
