Impressive Debut

Sutherland leg-spinner Devlin Malone enjoyed a memorable debut during Round Eight of the McDonald’s Sydney First Grade competition with the 16-year-old taking three wickets in his first over against Northern District.

Round Eight of the premiership consisted of 50 over matches, with these games also counting as Round Two of the McDonald’s First Grade Limited Overs competition.

Malone, who represented NSW Metro at last month’s U/17 Male National Championships in Hobart, had featured in the Sutherland Second Grade side this summer where he took 19 wickets in six matches at an average of 16.00.

His first over in First Grade is one he will never forget. After conceding a single with his opening delivery, he had Andrew Harriott caught for nine.

The next ball was a dot and he then removed Matthew Phillips and Dean Crawford with consecutive deliveries.

Unfortunately he missed out on a hat-trick and finished the innings with 3-12 from six overs, including two maidens.

At just 16-years and 237 days old, Malone is the first player in First Grade history to take three wickets in the first over of their debut game.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.
