From seek.com.au

Chair of State Selection - WestEnd Redbacks

About the role

The South Australian Cricket Association are currently seeking Expressions of Interest for the role of Chair of State Selection - WestEnd Redbacks.

The main focus of the Chair of State Selection - WestEnd Redbacks is to make Redbacks team selections within South Australia that achieve optimal team performance and player opportunities, in alignment with South Australian Cricket Association and Cricket Australia objectives. Additionally, the role will support the selection panel in the identification of talented players via Elite youth squads and Premier A Grade.

My take away from this is that WestEnd is now one word with the second 'e' capitalised.

I note on westenddraught.com.au that they are not using this nomenclature themselves so it's either a SACA marketing initiative (inspiring! Could make all the difference) or a typo (example of SACA buffoonery)
This is Tony Clifton! A name to respect! A name to fear!

Yep - saw that on Ch 10 and Ch 7 news last night. This just came up on SACA website:
Gillespie to usher in new era as West End Redbacks Coach
SACA Media

The South Australian Cricket Association is excited to announce the appointment of Jason Gillespie as its new Head Coach of the West End Redbacks.

Gillespie is one of South Australia’s most prolific bowlers and identities, with 54 Sheffield Shield matches and 71 Tests to his name.

He is South Australia’s third-most capped Test player behind the Chappell brothers, taking a total of 259 Test wickets with best bowling of 7/37.

Gillespie famously signed off from Test cricket with a nightwatchman’s knock for the ages, a score of 201 not out in his final match against Bangladesh in Chittagong.

The 45-year-old also has wealth of coaching experience behind him, having led the Adelaide Strikers to their maiden KFC Big Bash title in 2018, and with Yorkshire where he led them first to promotion, and then consecutive county championships in 2014 and 2015.

SACA Chief Executive Keith Bradshaw is assured that the right person has been selected for the role after an extensive process.

“The South Australian men’s head coaching role is the most important in South Australian cricket, and we know that Jason is the right person to invigorate our program and push it forward,” Bradshaw said.

“He is a proud South Australian with a phenomenal coaching resume behind him, we have seen how he has worked with the Strikers, leading them to their first title, and I know Jason will give it his all to steer the Redbacks in the right direction.

“We acknowledge that Jason will be in England until October as he is committed to his role with Sussex until the end of their season.

“This is one of the reasons we are delighted to have Jason on board. He is a quality person, once he starts something he is fully committed.”

Gillespie knows the coaching staff very well through his association with the Strikers and even though he is in England until the end of their domestic season he is able to manage the program and set the direction he wants prior to landing back in Australia.

Bradshaw sat on a selection panel with former Australian cricketers Michael Hussey, Rod Marsh, Belinda Clark and Tim Nielsen to decide the role.

“I’m deeply honoured to be afforded the opportunity to coach the South Australian cricket team,” Gillespie said.

“The chance to work with the players, coaches and off field team at the SACA is very exciting.

“Team SACA is something I’m very much looking forward to being a part of.

“I’m very excited!”

Cant be expecting miracles this year. Late appointment, cant bring in own coaches as due to COVID they cant afford to replace who is left, late start only arriving in October, the list has already been compiled by Tim Neilson. He will need this season to make all the changes required for next season.

It will be interesting to see what his approach is, given the list has already been locked in.
Will the same players get a game again or will he try and blood some younger players and see if they can stand up?

If he fails though, surely then SACA will look seriously at the grade setup?

So did Dizzy have the job from day one?
What was the point of the ‘Hussey’ review?
Why advertise then?

Same shit, different day.

Yeah I saw the list of people interviewed but was it a done deal anyway?
Was it a waste of time and money?

What makes you think it was?

Dizzy was always the favourite (and best candidate IMO) but that doesn't mean holding a review or interviews was a waste of time.

Dizzy wanted the job so why waste time.
They’ve just wasted time and money doing interviews.
Who was going to apply that was going to beat Dizzy to the role?
Unless Ponting wanted it just give it to Dizzy and get going.

Then be accused of 'jobs for the boys' again!

Either option they were screwed by someone with an opinion.....

The 2 candidates that missed out were also highly valued coaches in their own right so should have been able to state their credentials for the job.

Due process was followed and Dizzy is ****** for his first season in charge anyway with no big name interstate recruit and a virtually unchanged list from last season.

It is a job for the boys!
But the right one IMO

Unless he can bring someone in at the last moment he is going to struggle with the current squad.
