Greatest Pakistani XI

Postby Lightning McQueen » Fri Nov 22, 2019 11:13 am

Having always had a soft spot for the Paki's as a kid here is a list of the best XI of my lifetime.

Saeed Anwar
Shoaib Mohammed
Javed Miandad
Mohammad Yousuf
Zaheer Abbas
Younis Khan
Imran Khan
Wasim Akram
Wasim Bari
Abdul Qadir
Waqar Younis

I couldn't squeeze Inzi in there, I thought Zaheer batted through a tougher period and opted for him although Yousuf got to bat against minnows so maybe he could've taken his spot.

I had to go with Younis over Akhtar for his ability to do amazing things with the ball and invented reverse swing.

Wasim Bari was the best gloveman I've seen for the Paki's although his batting wasn't as good as others vying for the spot, I think with Akram and Imran in the team it counteracts that.

I went with Qadir over the modern day spinners, I have Javed and Shoaib in the team to bowl offies and Qadir was the first player I had seen as a kid actually turn the ball at great ratio's, he had every kid in the street trying to bowl leggies.

Feel free to pick it to bits or offer better suggestions.

Yep I don't think Akhtar makes a fourth eleven in that time assuming you are talking Test cricket?

Really, that surprises me, my selection didn't take into account stats, was just gut feeling he hadn't been successful at Test level

I thought they've been a bit short at having good opening batsmen, that was a no-brainer, Sohail was in my mind but he doesn't have a great record, I was always a bit of a Mohsin Khan fan too.

Anwar and Sohail are the only ones I can remember, the other one you named I have no idea who he is, its a shame we haven't seen a lot of Pakistan in the last 30 years. Inzi would replace that opener if we just picked the 6 best batsman.

Undoubtably, there's a fair case to argue his point, he is as good as any I named, if I done the same exercise next Wednesday he could well be in there.

Nazar got his ball fees worth, would open the batting and bowl first change, especially in ODI's.

Yeah, I only judged on who I've seen, Hanif Mohammad was a highly rated opener.

We ought to do one for all the established Test playing nations.
Politicians kissing babies for good luck,
TV preachers sell salvation for a buck.
You don't need no golden cross to tell you wrong from right,
The world's worst murderers were those who saw the light.

I'd back that team on any pitch in any conditions. The great thing about the 4 quickies is they bowled from 4 different trajectories at different release points. Viv could pitch in with some sliding offspin and Clive could bowl some medium wobblers.
