gets a 6fa
Helped by some good catching, that was an encouraging performance overall by the Aussies. Meredith very impressive on debut, really troubled the Kiwis with his pace.

I know it sounds silly but he lies the problem, this is why we'll only be a middle tier side.

There is no doubting the talent in our side but players such as Finch, Agar, Maxwell and Stoinis do nothing for 5 or 6 games and just when they're on their last leg they come out and do something miraculous, and usually all in unison, they've all brought themselves another half a dozen failures before coming under scrutiny again.

On another note, don't get me wrong because I actually love the guy, but what is CA's infatuation with Kano? We take over a huge squad and he seems to be one of the first picked each game, I would've thought Behrendorff was due for a game, what's the pint in him traveling otherwise and although I'm not a Sams fan, didn't he do enough to maintain his spot? Especially considering our long tail yesterday.

Oh well, we won, Philippe scored well again and a couple of our older heads got their mojo back, the series is still alive and we can wait and see the changes for the next game.

Honestly don't think its been that bad a showing from us over in NZ so far, keeping in mind it is essentially a second strong T20 side (Warner, Smith, Cummins, Starc at minimum would be in our best 11)

We are playing arguably the greatest era of NZ cricket with this second string side and being somewhat competitive.

I know in the mid 90's / early 00's around the Australia A days we probably would have beaten them but not sure many other eras would have seen our second string side be more competitive.

Love the look of Phillipee in the short form. Yes its only T20 but he simply doesn't look outclassed by quality bowlers such as Boult and Southee, his not a sitting duck that's for sure.

Selection was odd I thought because Andrew McDonald said in the media there would be some changes but in the end there was only one, obviously they were backing those remaining ten from game two to get a win yesterday which they did so that's obviously a positive but I agree with you in the sense that what is the point of taking a guy over there if he's not going to play at all? So now we wait and see if there's any changes for game four tomorrow.

It's not like players need "resting", they are T20's and they're spaced far enough apart.

I thought our batting line up looked frail if the top order shat itself, Jhye is not a number 8 nor Kane a number 9, it seemed odd to omit Sams for this reason.

It's difficult to guess what they will do, it is also difficult to attempt to do what my line up would look like, I think Marsh is batting too low as a specialist batsman, is his spot in jeopardy? You'd tend to lean towards McDermott, or play both, drop Wade and elevate Philippe.

Won't happen but.........

Finch
Philippe
Marsh
Maxwell
McDermott
Stoinis
Agar
Jhye
Zampa
Dorff
Meredith

Unfortunately I'd probably lean towards Sams over the Dorff do give us a bit more batting depth although I can understand why they showed faith in their last line up, if you're relying on 8-11 to dig you out of the shit in a T20 you're probably going to lose anyway.

I've been thinking a bit about this, and wonder if we judge players too harshly in the T20 space? I mean in test and ODI there is form and there is time to be able to have consistency, but T20 really is a raffle.

Batsman have to go hard every ball and bowlers are constantly battling to restrict runs against batsman going hard every ball.

Guys in the middle order like Maxwell, Stoinis and Agar are also under greater pressure because they tend to get less balls to face and are expected to score at stupid strike rates from ball 1.

He's the skipper and scored 69, he ain't going anywhere, Wade 12(12), 24(15) & 5(6), he's clogging up balls and we have an alternative keeper, he wouldn't be in the long term vision now either.
Thank you.

Struggled a bit to get his timing right and find the middle of the bat bit finished strongly smashing 26 off Jamieson on the 20th over.

Finch now has the most T20I runs for Australia (overtaking Warner for now and is 6th overall in the world) and is the first Australia to hit 100 T20I sixes.
