He's miles behind Carey.
Get Carey in now then.Paine has been great but time to say thanks for filling the void but your time is up.
With Smith and Warner back they don’t need a player with the C next to their name anyway.
Put it next to Cummins if they have too for now.
100%. Paine isn't the best keeper / batsman in the country right now, Carey is.
Paine is, rightfully, getting his dues for the job he did digging Australia out of the shit and he deserves to be given every opportunity to play out his shortened ( remember he was going to be the keeper to ascend to the role after Haddin ) international career but at 36 he's going to hold Carey back if he's in the gloves next Australian summer.
And here comes Josh Inglis flying up on the inside....
Sorry Boon Paine has Carey covered in glove work and batting ATM.
However he's about to hit that wall which all Test Keeper's smash into at the age he is now - 36.
Marsh, Healy, Gilchrist and Haddin were all done and cooked at or before 37.
Carey should be next in line and he's a bloody good gloveman with soft hands (sometimes he comes up a bit too early and he misses some low balls) and can bat. However Inglis has a very similar 1st class batting average (32 v Careys 34) and he's got great hands too, so don't be surprised.
Phillipe is behind those two.
I think Careys leadership skills will get him over the line as next test keeper but I wont be surprised if Inglis leap frogs him
