The Australian Test side needs a change of direction...

Postby CentrelinkBulldogs » Tue Dec 06, 2005 9:10 pm

I was at the majestic Adelaide Oval little over a week ago, when I had a look over to the scoreboard. As I was attending with my Under 15's, I expected to be fired a lot of cricket questions. The best of all, however, was this:

[i]Who's the youngest player in the Test side?

My answer? Brett Lee, who turned 29 recently. Apart from that, the rest of the side is 30 or over.

This forced me to think about the future of Australian cricket. Realistically, who in the Australian side will be there in 7 years?

That's correct...nobody.

Michael Clarke doesn't qualify because he got dropped for a lack of ticker.

Now is the time for the Test side to blood some 'young pups'.

My test side for 2012 (batting order):

1. Phil Jaques (NSW)
2. Ed Cowan (NSW)
3. Shaun Marsh (WA)
4. Michael Clarke (NSW)
5. Mark Cosgrove (SA)
6. Shane Watson (QLD)
7. Cameron White (Vic) (captain)
8. Chris Hartley (QLD) (wicketkeeper)
9. Dan Cullen (SA)
10. Paul Rofe (SA)
11. Shaun Tait (SA)

Also, get rid of John Buchanan and his ******* computer...and get an expert like Steve Waugh to coach.

I'm done.

Have the feeling that there won't be too much talent infused to the lineup until, as Jimmy said, after the Ashes which after the sting of losing recently, I'd imagine the selectors would be treating as the World Cup ... The highlight of the cricketing fixture toward which they'll build and then commence near-on immediate refurbishment once it's passed!

Yes....yes we will. Bowlers like McGrath and warne tend to only come around every now and then. Sure Cullen and White will be good spinners and Tait will be a good fast man, those Two blokes (Warnie and McGrath) are freaks.

I think Callum Ferguson will be right in the mix as well, just to add another name.
Likely to be a couple of bowlers from NSW in the side as well.

Funny, I thought Clarkey got dropped because he wasn't making runs, not because he had a heart problem

Every team will be facing a new direction in seven years. We have the infrastructure in place and as such we will remain a cricket power. Good call on Flanders though.

Cameron White? Bwah Bwah Bwah...most overrated hack of this era...how he gets a one-day game I'll be stuffed...

His bowling efforts against the sheep-shaggers 2 nights ago was quite shite...sure the guy has a little bit of ticker with the bat, but Christ...

Bit difficult predicting a 2012 team from now because there could be another set of Michael Clarke's and Shane Watson's that we haven't even seen come through yet...

Normally I'm against promoting NSW players just for the sake of it but in the case of Phil Jaques, he is a class act. Get him in the Australian team as soon as possible.

Another one from left field is a young rookie player from the redbacks Tom Plant.
Good opener for Glenelg in district, has been scoring well and in a few seasons will open for SA once blewett and elliot retire.
Thats a hot tip.
Melrose Park that aint South I'm talking about the real South.
