Can anyone explain to me - or better, point me towards a website which has an explanation in big, friendly letters and nice short words - the rules behind the cycling events?

There is an event where two riders go head to head, and it seems to me that the idea is to go as slow as possible until the last lap. This defies all logic. Obviously I am missing something important.

And that other event where 4 racers on each team ride in single file, with the leader dropping to the rear after every lap. What's up with that?

I just don't get it. :?

The riders aren't told to go as slow as possible. The rules say that each rider takes a turn leading into the last lap. If the riders go as fast as they can then they'll be overtaken because the other rider will just slipstream them. Effectively they're trying to negate the advantage of starting from behind.

This is again because of slipstreaming. The rider swings off the front so someone else does the work into the still air and the others get it a little easier sitting behind in the slipstream. It's the most effective way to use the 4 riders energy best.

Hope that makes sense.
