I was disappointed for my step father who came here at a young age from Malta, has always lived soccer and even played for the State at one stage. Knowing that the World Cup won't be here in his lifetime (and probably mine too) is a bit sad.
I'm sure there's plenty like him, Les Murray and Frank Lowy too. :(

I feel very sorry for Frank Lowy and the other members of the team who put forward Australia's bid. They were obviously very passionate and truly believed we were a chance.

But...

Why would FIFA have ever awarded it to a country such as Australia when there are so many other countries in the Asian region (which we have to be considered alongside) who would provide a much better return to the game than Australia ever could?

Unfortunately, our failed bid had nothing to do with not having the right stars in the presentation or using too corny a kangaroo. It was doomed to fail from the outset because despite what we think, Australia is just too insignificant on the world football stage.

Equally, why would England have ever got the nod? Holding the World Cup there would not really benefit the game to any great extent. Russia = opportunity, Qatar = safe place to play in the Middle East (Middle East = opportunity).

Still not a fan of automatic entry for host nations. In the future more and more rich countries will buy world cup hosting rights so that their shit football teams get a free ride ride into the world cup. Qatar is that crap and there is no way their football team would qualify on talent alone so the only way they will ever compete at world cup is to buy the thing.

australia will never host a world cup while they are in asia. New Zealand has more chance if Qatar can do it NZ is more than a good chance. Its all who is mates with who and who pays who more money we all know it so why be suprised at it.

This isn't intended as sour grapes, because I really don't lose any sleep over losing something we never had lol, but from the article on Adelaidenow regarding this http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/travel/ne ... 5964916965 I found the following excerpt alarming in relation to the successful bid:

- We advise you to exercise a high degree of caution in Qatar because of the threat of terrorist attack against Western interests. Terrorists have demonstrated the intent and capability to conduct attacks throughout the Arabian Peninsula at places frequented by Westerners, such as commercial and public areas. Further attacks may be planned and could occur in Qatar.

I wouldn't be too stressed about that, it looks like the proforma smarttraveller.gov.au has for most countries.
It's basically said because things have gone down in Iraq that they can go down anywhere on the Arabian Peninsula.
One could argue that as have terrorists have shown the intent to attack in one part of the earth they're a chance at attacking anywhere inthe world.

A more severe warning exists for the UK but do you think that would have been brought up if England won the 2018 bid?
I think not.

If and when our next bid happens, getting NZ included may be our only hope.
In hindsight, they should have been involved in this bid?

Yeah they will be all aircon stadiums. But when i go to a world cup i usually go fir 6-8 weeks so i can see the sights, cant do that when its 48 outside. I think alot of peole will base themselves in europe and take the shortish flight over to qatar. My wife is already asking if we can base ourselves in greece or spain

they now have one even if its not for another 12 years. As a travel agent the is sweet FA to do there

Australia should spend more money on winning a world cup than trying to host it!

Dont know what there is in qatar to do so maybe we can hop around the middle east, its been a dream for me to to go to egypt so maybe that is an option.
But got bigger fish to fry first. Looking at brazil only bit over 3 years away so saving the pennies so we can take 10 weeks off. It will come around quick as.

Is it possible for countries from 2 different confederations to lodge a joint bid?
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10
