I haven't followed the champ league really since the mid 90s so I am starting to watch it a bit more now

I have followed for a very long time very keenly, its the pinnacle of European football.
Clubs aren't taken seriously in Europe until they have performed in the CL. Chavski's win was a huge step, turned them from a good club into a great club. Clubs can win as many domestic titles as they want but they wont be thought of as a powerhouse until they win the CL.
Cant see an English side winning it this year, you are our best hope, we have defensive issues and are not consistant enough, Chavs are world beaters one minute and plodders the next and Shiteh are flat track bullies who qualified from the softest group.
Im tipping United and Shiteh to be knocked out in Round of 16 ( provided we even get out of group ), Chavs to lose in quarters and Arsenal to make semis

They have been on a good run, Bayern are the only team to beat them at home since March.

8 home wins in a row in the group stage too.

5-0 away is an amazing win.

Plenty would say they are a better side than Dortmund and Napoli. Currently second in a very tough league

munich and Dortmund is the only really decent comp in that league. Other than that there is no one else really. Not too hard to be second or there abouts

I never said there was a difference jim

my point is a club of your stature AND TALENT against that side I wouldn't be worried too much. you won the game yes, but it wasn't like it was Barcelona ....

Im always worried at the moment, we cant beat the likes of Cardiff in the league so I was well and truly fearing Leverkusen after some of our pathetic efforts this year

Poor performance by Napoli against Dortmund.
Now have to win by 3 goals against Arsenal or rely on Dortmund to drop Pts against Marseille [-o<

There will always be unbelievers until you actually win the comp, fact is for all those years in a row you have made it past the group stage you have only come close to winning it once. With some of your great sides you have had over the years you really should have done better, maybe this year is the year. I predicted awhile back that you will be the English side that progresses furtherest this year. Cant see United or Shiteh getting past next round unless a really soft draw and not sure Chavs can go far either.

how does the draw work? it doesnt go to a winner V r/up situation or it does but they are still drawn out rather than a set winner A V r/up B etc...

I am talking about all comps jim. Not champ league. Tired of the jealousy of mancs supporters saying "this will test these pretenders this game" etc.

'
Teams that come second will be drawn against teams who came first but you can't be drawn against a team from the same country in the round of 16.

Split into winners and runners up.
Cant meet clubs from own country or clubs that qualified from same group.
R/U drawn first from pot and play the first leg at home

Well its up to your mob to prove everyone wrong, now you know how it feels, everyone wrote us off last year and said Shiteh would win. All you can do is keep getting points, im putting money on your lot to win this week so they better get the job done

stupid the way the draw is done for the knockouts!! It should be like the FA Cap. Yes the group stages don't have teams in same countries but the knockouts should be like a lottery , put the names of teams in a bowl, shake it up, and pick!

then you could guarantee that Man U would face only English clubs for the whole next three rounds (as long as any of them survive, Man U included...)
