A goal worthy of winning a WC
Argies paid the price for taking unfit players into the final

For mine, goal of the tournament.
Great technique, composure and, of course, the most important winner of them all.

Anyone else surprised that Messi was awarded the player of the tournament?

Neither did I, in fact during the week speaking with a mate I questioned if he was less effective with inferior players around him than he has at club level. He's a champion player, I'd never question that, but I can't recall him ever doing much for Argentina that matches the extraordinary stuff he does with Barca.

Recorded the final and watched it just then. Great goal, worthy winners in Germany, they were clearly the best team in the tournament and deserved the win

Worthy winners, reckon the final would of been a better spectacle if the Dutch had got through. The Argies were cooked and I always thought 1 goal would be enough, the Argies didnt look like scoring in the semi or final. Really lacked firepower this tournament

Yeah apart from the Nigeria game they really struggled for goals. I really expected a little bit more flair from them this tournament

Rodriguez for mine - he should've won the Player of the Tournament.
He was the dominant forward & best player by far IMHO.

Argentina had the 'easy' side of the draw - were always certain 1/4 Finalists.
Thought tactically, they were good defensively but too reliant on Messi - Aguero & Higuian had poor Tournaments.

Germans were the best Team at the Finals & deserved to win - peaked when it mattered.

Obviously, a lot can happen between now & Russia but I think Belgium would be feeling good about 4 years time but...
As I said at the start of the Tournament: It is NEVER about How you play, its always about WHO you play - the draw plays a big part in determining the winner.

I am happy with a 320% return on my investments before the Tournament but still annoyed Muller couldn't quite repeat the Golden Boot result.
If someone had said Germany would win 7 - 1 v Brazil, I would've expected Muller to have got at least 2 of those.
That said, he was predominantly played as a wide attacking midfielder rather than an out & out striker.

Schurrle took one off his boot v Brazil that would have seen him get home (apparently they split equal goalscorers by assists)

I think you will find that Sportsbet would've 'split' the dividend as a 'Dead Heat' result.
The wording is not 'Golden Boot Winner' but 'Top Goal Scorer' - Bookies are clever like that.
I got $8.50 for the Place (they paid 4 Places on E/Way Bets) so not totally upset.
