Surely the SFL would adopt two divisions if true

EV we have had numerous discussions regarding the future of the SFL.

I believe the concept the SFL WILL use will be based around the American Football system of confrences,or in our comp a North South comp with a finals system in both and then a Super bowl between the 2 grand final winning sides.

The SFL would require more sides and I am led to believe we have a few knocking on the door.Blackwood/Phos Camden/Mitchell Park/Plympton just to name a few.

Thoughts?

Assuming blackwood join and no other clubs
South
Aldinga
Noarlunga
Port Noarlunga
Hackham
Christies Beach
Morphettvale
Reynella
Lonsdale

Happy Valley
North
Cove
Flaggies
Blackwood
Brighton
Marion
Edwardstown
Morphettville Park

With Valleys and Lonsdale on the border and possibly swapping.

Based on current form, the North would actually be a decent competition in the A grade. Juniors are a problem though. The three most northern clubs have two colts sides between them, Marion U/14 (bottom) and U/18 (second to bottom). Would Cove and Brighton be willing and able to play their second sides on Saturday and fill the gaps?

Southern comp is a bit of a worry in Seniors, based on current form, Lonsdale, Aldinga, and Hackham would likely suffer strong defeats against Morphettvale, Reynella, and Porties. Juniors are not as bad as in the North, with only Lonsdale and Aldinga being a problem with numbers in the colts (Hackham seem likely to be at full compliment in the near future).

Interesting idea though
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

Reynella Oval and Cove Oval are in the middle of Lonny and Valley ovals North South wise. Good idea though, the junior programme would be a nightmare. Shoeboy would get even angrier about it.

Why not have the clubs with all juniors in 1 div, and those without in another? Shoe boy would agree with me... :D

Blackwood rumour has been around for years....

And does the SFL really want Kangys back? There wont be a small pond for them to dominate, so I doubt they want a piece of it...

Well said

Two conferences is still not going to help struggling teams. It may in fact weaken further the comp. Top couple in each group not playing against good quality teams often enough

MG I have also heard this option.

2 divisions with the criteria to play div 1 you must have a full contingent of sides.

Is anyone able to clarify how with Flaggies entering a side in the Sunday u14 Competition after four rounds the win loss ratio will work. Will all teams that have had the bye get two points? Are Flaggies starting 4 games behind?

Great to see Flaggies get the 2nd side up and kids playing footy though. I imagine losts of hard work by a few at the club

Yes. Well done to Flaggies. They have some real talent coming through aged 12-18 and maybe the wheel is slowing starting to turn in their direction from their more successful neighbour Happy Valley. I'm led to believe Flaggies aren't concerned about starting behind the rest and just want to provide a weekly game of footy for the many lads that are missing regular selection from their Under 14. Plus they would likely have a few college lads who can't play regular Saturday's. I know they have a few at Sacred Heart and probably some at Westminster. Cove, Brighton and Reynella (twice) have had the BYES and are being asked to play Catch Up games to equalise the matches played for the rest of the comp. This isn't easy as none of those 3 clubs have match quality lights so July school holidays starting at around 3.45 midweek may be the best option. But then, due to school holidays, some of these lads may end up playing Saturday and Sunday as well, so 3 games in a week is a bit much. Otherwise, why can't SFL just retrospectively assume those matches were against Flaggies and award Forfeits. That seems a more logical option. Catch Up games are easier said than done.

not sure where you guys are getting your info on plympton wanting to be in the SFL?? at no point in time have i heard that my footy club wants to move to the SFL??. Think you guys might be wrong. Again....it would be stupid IF they did join, why would plympton , want to join a league were there are 2 0r 3 teams smashing every other side in the comp by 30+ goals every week. Its a stupid idea. Can someone who is writing this info up explain where or whom told them that plympton are looking to join the SFL??

Some of you guys are still missing the point with 2 divs. We've just applauded Flaggy for their work with their juniors but by putting them in Div 2 based on Senior form of recent, they will just all nick off to Happy Valley in the stronger comp. As I've said many times before, this just widens the gap between the 2 divs. It would become more like Div 1 and Div 4 with nothing in between. The above mentioned Div 2 would only see 5 or at best 6 sides in each junior age group which is mickey mouse. You can't integrate juniors as one div because programming of 5 matches per game day would be impossible. It just aint gonna work.

2 Conferences of 8 if done correctly can mean you can still play every one once from both conferences and then play 3 teams from your own conference twice. This can be done from who makes the bottom 4 or top 4 of your conference each year. eg. If Brighton, Cove, Flaggies and Morphy Park make the top 4 of North Conf. they then play each other twice the next season, likewise bottom 4 of North, top 4 south, bottom 4 south. This way regional rivalries are maintained without truly splitting the league in 2. This will mean that the Premiership Tables may not be symmetrical but they aren't in the US sports either. The question will be do we have a straight top 4 for each conf. or have Top 3 guaranteed and Wild Cards for the next 2 best win/loss/percent records across both zones. This would likely be 4th in both conf. but not always.

This still all means juniors can be a problem when playing clubs that don't have a full set but we all know what the alternative is for those clubs who will continue to struggle fielding junior teams.

Happy Valley will play finals this year as opposed to at least two of the teams you mentioned for division 1. As it stands, they have not lost to a team that finished out of the top six last year.
