Speaking with some M/Vale commitee members last night and they informed me young Liam Green(sorry forgot his new surname) has left South Adelaide and is back with the Emus!

They as I am are concerned that quality lads like Liam are leaving SA!! what is going on down there??

Interesting rumour Shoe Boy cos Liam was actually on the Crows list of young lads to keep an eye on, I know this for a fact after having a conversation will James Fantasia who at the time was a recruiting manager at the crows. Typical South, can't foster a club atmosphere so why wouldn't the boys go back to "home"

Just curious with Young Scotty Brown heading to Willunga has his old man Rick moved up there aswell? I thought Rick helped out a bit around the club?

Pretty big loss as one day when he returns from Westies he will be very very handy.

Liam is still young enough to have a crack at the state U18's side next year so I dare say a few more than just the Crows have had a look at him. Obviously not enjoying it at South at the moment, doesn't seem to be alone there, and wanted to come back and enjoy footy.

getting paid peanuts at south or $$$ in sfl and playing with his mates he grew up with, what would you choose at 16 years of age? thats an extra 4 pack of red bears! he knows he could still go out to south and play league footy when he's 20 or older!

Fair call but you would think that a lad of his talent would have support from SA that would keep him focused on the big picture?(obviosly not)

On Liam growing up with mates! He played all of his Mini footy with the Shoe and lads like Carlyle/Miller/Strawbridge but due to his mothers movements and a big influence from Steve Hill he landed at the Emus.
Good luck to the lad but I do hope he has good people around him and he doesnt turn into a "could of been"

rick works in the mines and does 2 wks on 2 wks off so didnt help out at the club, he is just a supportive dad who loves a cold beer while watching his son when he can! so if youve got scott youve got rick! big loss to christeis!

Plently of chat about the Association side not being at full strength... Which is warranted I might add... If ALL players were available how would the SFL team line up? Plenty of debate no doubt... Anyone want to have a go at the 18 + 4 I/C???

butcher not playing also wanting the weeks rest. if they wanted people to play it maybe get a sponsor and give all players like 200 dollars as an incentive. might find a few more take it a bit more serious. surely the amatuer league would be in the same boat with selection although being an under 23 side you dont need a weekend off as much as the rest of us. well done p32 on the nomination

The Association game against the SAAFL Under 23 side is clearly a joke, and this argument is supported by the lack of interest shown by the nominated players from the power clubs such as Brighton and Morphett Vale.

Lets put in in perspective, the SAAFL side trains together for months and uses the game against the SFL merely as a practice run before it heads to the national titles. The players all know each other, their strengths and weaknesses, and Im sure the side would have a game plan in place. The SFL has 2 training sessions, most the players wouldn't have a clue about one another, and it's clearly impossible to implement a successful gameplan in 2 sessions.

The SFL are set-up to lose before they hit the field, and it's no wonder why majority of the nominated players would rather have a week off, than spend the Saturday afternoon getting belted at a sh!t hole of a ground!

SFL is full of blokes who won't put their hand up to play at South, no surprise these same blokes won't play association, strut their stuff in the SFL but won't mix it with the big boys

Agree with some of these statements, a lot of these blokes go very well in the local leagues but struggle at a higher level. Probably comes down to commitment and the payoff $$$ vs effort. To play at SANFL level requires a fair bit of dedication to achieve the standards required to play at league and even reserves level. If blokes are happy to train 1 or 2 nights a week earn decent money etc then thats fine and their choice, it depends on the individual.

Having watched a few SANFL games both league and reserves as well as plenty of SFL, I would categorically state that none of the SFL sides would get near even the bottom placed reserves sides due to the fitness levels, strength and conditioning work these guys do. Thats not saying that if some of these blokes put in the same amount of effort they couldn't match it. I reckon if you spoke to blokes like J.Sampson, J Farrier etc that have come back to the SFL they would probably agree.

I totally agree this concept is a waste of time and thats why players do not put their hands up for it. Again going back to the GSFL vs SFL etc, this would attract much more interest from players and spectators alike. The SFL administration need to pull their heads out their butts and listen to what everyone is saying, but we all know this wont happen for particular reasons. Playing the game at SAFC would be doing nothing for the crowd also, so good luck with that SFL.

My guess would be in line with others - SAAFL by 10+

It is really disappointing that so many young lads who should be playing at a higher level are no longer motivated to do so. The talent is obviously there but they appear to be put off by the club/culture they find themselves competing in.

While I have no time for South having had some experiences with them, the fact is that what is currently occurring is not good for football in general. There really should be a review of why players are opting out of league/reserves by a combination of SAFC/SFL/GSFL to determine why this is happening and how it can be turned around. This probably also extends to West and Glenelg but seems more pronounced with South Adelaide.
