Lets have some quick posts guys. Not keen on this page number. Don't want any bad omens for the weekend.

Reynella and Brighton have played 2 great finals at Bice in last 2 years and don't expect this Sunday to be any different. No doubt we prefer to play them on the bigger grounds rather than the pocketless Reynella. May the best team win.

Can't post without mentioning Cove failing to make the last 4 in A & B grade and their C grade petering out after early season dominance. 4 losses and a draw and an extra-time loss in a final probably deserves a better finish than 6th but history will show that Cove have had the largest post-premiership slide for many a year (I think). Plenty of "Stunned Mullets" down at Cobra Park.

Theres a challenge for you BTP. Cove fell from 1st to 6th. How far back do we have to go to find worse.

Fairly certain after the last premiership the valleys won in their era of dominance in the 90's they then went on to miss the finals the next 2 years (2000 and 2001 - both years were a final 5 tho) before appointing Allan Stringer.

Another one for you tho BTP. When was the last time a team won the GF after playing the prelim on the Sunday...?

Just a query for those that are in the know, if a player plays B's and C's in the same weekend he gets 2 games to his league tally, my query is does the B grade game count as a qualification game only or does the C grade count also..?? Also, I am aware you must play a minimum 4 games in any one grade to qualify and if playing every round must be 6 in the lower grade and no more than 12 in the higher grade. Is this also correct?

I think M/Vale won the grand final two years ago from a Sunday Prelim final, but it does make a difference particularly if some players are not 100% fit

You are correct ZC , they certainly have done it, I reckon it was the year Pt Noarlunga defeated M/Vale in the qual final.

Qualification:

All games count even if you play B & C on same weekend. But you still can't play more than 12 games in a higher grade. eg. A guy could play all 18 games in B grade but also play 5 double-up games in C grade. He doesn't qualify for C grade (even though he played minimum 4) because he played more than 12 in B grade. However, a guy could only play the last 6 weekends of the season and play 6 in B grade and 4 double-ups in C grade. He qualifies because he played 4 in C grade and 12 or less in B grade.

Happy Valley 2000:

You may be right S16. In 1999 HV won their 6th flag in 8 years and had mass retirements by memory. Darn it, I was hoping Cove's inglorious slide may have dated back further. Interesting topic though.

That year was 2004. 1st and 2nd lost their qualies but bounced back in next 2 weeks to win through to GF. That being Emus and Bombers. All I can remember is Brighton and Porties playing an incredible Prelim at the Shoe with a 3 point margin to the Bombers. I can't remember if it was the Saturday or the Sunday. Porties had a great side that year. Some bloke named Booth from Port Magpies was a star.

That was 2004, Morphies ended up playing Prelim on Saturday (beaten in Sunday Qually, came back with cross-over to play Prelim on Saturday)
Played Sunday Prelim in 2006 though. Finished second in minor round, played and won Sunday Qually which put them in Sunday Prelim)

If it is the booth I am aware of his name is Thomas but did not play for Port Magpies, he did play juniors at South , I think up to U/19 level

Just a minor correction BTP. Since 2002 with the SFL final 8, Qualifying Finals are week 1 and both played on Saturday. Semi-Finals are week 2 with 1 on Saturday and one on Sunday. Likewise the Prelims on week 3.

Tom Booth rings a bell. Somehow I thought he was on the Port Magpies senior list that year and actually played a few Reserves games.
