it's a good concept but i would hope that it doesn't occur. I've been fortunate enough to be involved in both leagues, with the GSFL standing way out in front, and that not being as a result of just the footy. It's the 'family' feel that is created in the league by having the netball and football follow each other! ... this causes 'families' to spend their saturdays together. in light of the busy schedules most households have today the GSFL is causing families to stick together.

I for one would vote NO to a GSFL and SFL merger! I'm sure the fleurieu teams would do the same!!

Yea cricket is the issue with both Reynella and Brighton.
It is a Reynella home game and they will collect gate and run BBQ but with the difficulty of the canteen being stocked with food and drinks the canteen will be run by the Shoe.

I will tip Noarlunga and Brighton,

Reynella havent seemed to get the whole group together yet, so i would say they would need a couple of rounds to start getting things to work.. I think they have only played VH so far, with many senior players missing that one? not ideal preparation.

How have brighton gone in their trials? who have they played?

Very well thanks AFL Flyer. Beat the Shoes by 5 or 6 goals, Port Dist by 6 or 7 goals and Walkerville on Sunday by 8-10 goals and have rotated our very best players through these games. The B grade have smashed each of these so depth looking very good as usual. Have lost a few players to Marion and Morphy Park, all of them good lads who we would have liked to keep around our club but gone to seek better A grade opportunity which is fair enough. At least you would rather them go to help boost another SFL neighbour than go elsewhere. We have also lost a couple to Plympton for similar reason over last couple of years, most notable being Daniel Roach who when fit and free of injury was a very good A grade player for the Bombers. Most of these players started their juniors at Plympton.

Making no prediction for this Saturday vs Reynella. Recent history between our clubs is that the underdog often gets up.

Indeed.
Undies, Rossco, Jonesy.
Fitting in a treat.

Undies - Underwood - Not up to A grade standard against top teams, i am told he couldnt make Brightons B's late in the year, but did make it back for finals, which mind you is a very good team however should be playing that grade atleast.
Rossco - Ross Tregonning..?? - Can play
Jonesy - ?? Not sure, is it the short goaty wearing bloke..?? Not sure if he played any A grade last year..??

I believe Roach was the player recognised for Plympton, agreed quality footballer.

Fair enough, maybe a change in location and opportunity was all that it took. Was i correct with the other 2 players?

Ross Tregoning - A very good footballer when on - has struggled with trainings with work the last few years but when fit can cause sides headaches - an original Marion Junior so goog to have him back.
Robbie Jones - Goaty bloke, has been a solid b grade player at Brighton with some A grade games, has fitted in well at the Rams and has made the most of his opportunities in the trial games and showed some real good signs.
Undies - Has got better over pre-season and has slotted into the group nicely, last week he was very good and look forward to seeing him improve more as the year goes on.

At a club like Brighton and the depth they have you would say 7-8 players in their B grade would play A grade at most other clubs. Hate saying that but it is fact, has been the same for a few years now same as Morphett Vale & Reynella. Other clubs are endeavouring to get to this stage as that is how you get success.

Very true Mr J we have two young lads from Cove who are doing very well for us after struggling for a game @ Cove. We can offer them the opportunity and watch them blossom into very good footballers. Win win situation for both the player and the new club. 8)

Down the Hill.

Any truth to the rumour that Brighton have picked 8 scholarship kids from Scared Heart this year??

Have heard it may be for your Sunday 16. Apparently on (football) scholarships at the Senior School.

If so Handy pick up but may leave a few locals without a game????

I thought this has been going on for years, I remember in 16's and 18's Cove always had a few Sacred Heart guys fill in occasionally. Was a big dispute when they picked alot of these guys in the 18's Grandy against Aldinga. Got them the flag mind you but fair few local Cove guys were not happy on missing out.

Anybody who wants to visit the Cove clubrooms and checkout the team and tribute to Jonny Buss and the victorious U18 Cobras will not find ONE ring in.
Cold beers and cheap meals while they are there.

Not talking about local kids who have gone top local schools. No big deal really just asking the question and how to get the contact with SHC for the Scholarship kids from out of town

Not sure about this one Vics01. I assume these kids are from the country and boarding at SHC. We have reasonably healthy numbers in our Sunday Under 16 but do have a few in the SANFL U/16 at Glenelg and West. Any kid at SHC on footy scholarship will presumably be in the SANFL Under 16 system with whichever club they are zoned to from their home town. If there are some considering coming out to Brighton after mid-May then its the first I've heard about it. We have plenty of Brighton lads in Year 10 and 11 at SHC so no doubt they would influence the selection of any local club they may wish to play for. These kids don't have cars and no parents to drive them around so it makes sense that they pick a club that is close by. I'm sure we would only accept a group like the one you mention if we needed the numbers. Like or lump college footy Vics, SHC for over a 10-15 years has had the best concentration of junior footy talent in SA and we have helped nurture much of the current talent through our Mini's along with alot of the Brighton High School talent as well. The Sunday comp has allowed us to retain the Mini's who now attend SHC and if the strong connection we now have with both these schools helps attract more players then we're not complaining.

No need to get your knickers in a knot Vics. I can't believe you are saying that........................who the hell would want to go to the Cove clubrooms?????

Not saying they weren't local I'm saying that there were 3 or 4 guys who only played 4 games as from SHC to qualify and lads who played the entire season missed out on GF day. Let me guess you're going to dispute that too? Who really cares I was only making the point about it being hard for those kids that do play the whole year and miss out on the big one there would have to be some very disappointed kids, but obviously it worked and continues to work hence why I wasn't actually having a go at it just making a point. I say play your best side and that's what they did.
