Your mail is generally correct about the oval. It got chopped up pretty bad a couple of weeks ago and the game against Christies had to be moved. It is definitely better now than it was a fortnight ago but is still far from perfect.

The surface shouldn't impact upon Sunday's game greatly unless it buckets down over the next few days.

Even though the result of this game is not as critical as the first final, I guarantee Reynella will be giving it everything to knock MV off again. Winning form is good form

Heard there is a meeting at Oval Road tonight with the council. Hopefully the footy club will LISTEN to what is being said and not do their own thing. Not listening to advice may be why the oval is the way it is!

I though all the drainage problems were fixed years ago..?
we havent even had much rain this winter, i wonder why its so bad,

Drainage has been checked and no problems with that, no leaking pipes either, maybe the players could walk over to the other side in front of the scoreboard (about 50 meters) to warm up with their kick and catch. The ground in front of the coaches box has been compacted due to overuse and that is the problem, if the footy club had liasied with the council the problem would of been fixed and they would not of had to move the Christies game.

what are you suggesting? when havent they listened?

Plenty of times, suggestions have been passed onto senior RFC committee members, coach also not willing to listen, it's his way or the highway.

What a crock of sh*t. The main problem with the oval was caused by two weeks of consecutive games at Reynella. This includes all Saturday and Sunday games combined with training every night of the week. I think there was also a large junior carnival held at the oval one night which resulted in heaps of kids running around and chopping it up. When you factor in a heap of rain during that period, you get the current result. The correct decision was made to move the Christies game rather than having games on the oval for a third consecutive week (awesome planning on the part of the SFL having three home games in a row).

No games have been held on the oval for two weeks now and it will be 21 days or so since a game was played on the oval by the time the MV game rocks around.

No worries. Still confident that oval should hold up ok for the weekend, provided we don't get heaps of rain between now and then

Our A & B grade have not a send-off all year let alone a report and only had 2 or 3 between them with no reports last year. What I think doesn't matter because the numbers don't lie. Too many blokes think being tough is swinging a fist or an elbow rather than showing true toughness and winning a hard ball and going back with the flight etc.

The problem with Reynella is that its not flat. It angles and slopes all over the place, particulary towards the clubroom side, which means moisture builds up quickly in certain spots. Then 2 years of the 2007 & 2008 coach on the sidelines made the clubroom slope even worse. ;) When they put the turf wickets in, the council should have got the spirit level out and at least tried to level the total playing surface.

Brighton can get pretty muddy at times and the centre pitch can get nasty but due to being perfectly flat it recovers fairly quickly and evenly.

I think people are forgetting just how much rain we have had over the past two months. We are back to normal weather pattens (after the drought) and in front for August. Despite being only the 10th we have already had half of the month's normal average. Also clubs like Reynella, Brighton and Flaggies (and others) who field a full complement of Sat. & Sun. sides are always going to have heavy usage on the grounds. Its a winter sport so we just have to cop it. Been spoiled over the past few years, but would suggest most grounds are better now than in the early 2000's.

I thought it ws actually something to do with the drainage to be honest, so maybe The Hound can elaborate on how he got his information, do you work for the council?
It was pretty poor planning from the SFL to have 3 games in a row though in the middle of winter, but nothing we could do about that except what we did do which was to move the Christies game.
Would be great to play the M/V game in perfect conditions but I really don't see it happening and with forecasts of plenty of rain this week it will be an absolute mudfest! We are actually getting some of the Myponga Mudlarks coaching staff in to give us some specialist tips on how to play in gumboots!!!
But I think most ovals would be struggling a bit with the rain we have had, even Happy Valley oval was pretty bad in some places, there was one part of the oval on the opposite side where your foot would sink about 5 inches, I thought it was an injury waiting to happen.
The only time i've ever been wrong...was when I thought I was wrong!!!

Move games??? pfft. This never happened in my day. I can recall trotting onto mudlark park for an A grade prelim not that long ago and there was not a blade of grass left prior to the game let alone at the completion.. Not to mention the fact a tractor got bogged at chf the thursday before while mowing...
Perhaps u should ask to have the season moved to summer?

No chance of that happening Deemu – summer is strictly Gaelic Footy season…

As for this weeks Reynella vs Morphies clash being nothing but a glorified friendly match, id gave to concur with RFC 2010’s sentiments - both sides will certainly still be playing to win! Morphies will surely want to atone for the pantsing we copped on Anzac Day.

Do the Morphies and Reynella "old boys" still have their bets on these fixtures...??

Just heard that the Club Report has been 'adjourned' until next week because the club which made the report (Port Noarlunga) failed to show up!

So it was only the Flagstaff Hill player present... What a joke!

When you lodge a club report if you wan't something done, how's about you turn up to the hearing...

Sorry if I'm mistaken and there was a legitamite reason, but still...

Your probably right NB, however some interesting match ups still to be decided, IF Christies can knock off an Edwadstown side that has just copped it worst defeat since joining the comp Flaggies will get in as i cant see them rolling MV in the last round, you could also never say never in relation to Noarlunga however extremely unlikely with the wet weather and Mitton playing with a 9 man backline to save their percentage.

Interesting to hear about Earl's way or the highway, what a surprise.

MV oval one of the best going around condition wise also, who would've thought? Suggest the MV / Reynella game get transferred to Noarlunga, thanks Craig.
