That umpire abuse is still rife on our game is pretty crappy.

I used to umpire basketball, and when I got abused the last thing I wanted to do was help them out with a few iffy decisions their way.

at noarlunga on saturday there was a triple reversal! it was just comedy with players from opposite teams infringing right under the umps nose. paid every free kick warranted too wasnt anything soft.

Hmmm- a bit of the old school Cove FC coming through there. Did he yell "Feel the venom" as he was throwing them?

One thing which definitely improved with Cove as they have become more successful is their discipline on field.

Im not saying our boys were totally innocent in the mellee, but our boys were certainly Daryl Wakelin to Hallet Cove's Alistair Lynch!

Sitting 2 meters away from the incident 2 cove players rushed in towards M/V player he put his forearm up to protect himself from the 2 cove players and got one of them above the shoulders. Im not saying the M/v boys were totally innocent but they also knew they were going into the grand final next week and had to take a couple hits for this reason.
Trust me the player in question had no time but to protect himself in the contact that got him the game. It was not even a retaliation

By the way, the 2 blokes throwing and connecting with haymakers leaving the player in question with a swollen black eye, were not sent off or reported.

Im assuming your referring to the brawl in the final minutes of the Cove v Morphies Reserves Prelim. I was nearby, although I didn't see how it started (apparantly by a Morphies elbow) but I saw 6 BIG BIG BIG punches thrown and they all came from someone with blue on their jumper. I'm sure there were some Emu punches thrown but in general they looked disciplined in the brawl. I was amazed that no Cove players were reported or sent off. Infact, despite all the punches, Cove even finished up with the free kick. And with umpires amongst the brawl, they must have seen the arms been thrown around.

I was standing on the other side of the oval in the UDL section - so obviously didnt see EVERYTHING, but what i did see was the fight building up over the last 5 minutes (Cove were well gone, the umpires werent paying any free kicks or taking control) and when the fight broke out the big CHB for Cove threw anywhere inbetween 10-15 haymakers at multiple Emus players! Can't they put off the tribunal for one week which would allow him to play in the GF then take the suspension next season?

Get real P32. So if a player in a winning Prelim belts an umpire or puts 3 people in hospital he should have his hearing deferred ?

The MV lad is very unlucky. Several Cove punks would have got there's if it wasn't a Prelim but the poor Emu lads had to restrain themselves from doing anything silly. Pretty brave from the Cove lads knowing the Emu's couldn't really fight back.

I thought the days of losing Prelim teams in the SFL taking some prisoners with them had gone but the actions of the Cove B grade in that scoreboard pocket was an embarrassment to their club. Almost as embarrassing as Dutch's hair on Sunday in the A grade. What was he thinking ?

That was a club report though P32 and the affected club has the right to have it deferred by 1 week under the SFL Constitution. The reporting club (Brighton) were aware of this so it wasn't a ploy to deny the Reynella player from playing in the GF.

Sorry my mistake on Dutch. I thought the guy I saw looked a little different than Dutch. So who then had the shocking white hair ? Was he still wearing Dutch's number ?

Hey DTH.. have you made sure that all Brighton players have been cleared to play this week.
I would not want anyone trying to win the GF this year from a forefit.

I think we're right KD. Our players are just a little worried about their spray tans getting ruined from the cheap dye in the Reynella jumpers.

You Brighton boys are sounding pretty confident! Dont tell me the Bombers have already put the order in for some figure hugging "premiership 2010" pastel coloured hooded tanktops...?? Dont get ahead of yourself boys!

You could get in trouble as you would probably have to order thru Globalize instead of the SFL preferred Sportscentre...

Not supporting the abuse of a umpire what so ever at that age, I heard in the U10 game he was giving free kicks to M/Vale kids for no reason, then telling them where to kick the ball (Is that a good learning curve for the kids) He is an U14 M/Vale player ....this raises the question of weather these kids should be umpiring their own teams games???The right answer could solve alot of problems...Well done to all involved in running the carnival was a great day.

He is NOT a Morphett Vale player at all. I think it is important that facts are verified before making comments regarding any children's matches or of children themself in a public forum. He was also not paying free kicks for no reason. He gave plenty of warnings to the abusive parents and officials on the sideline before he started paying those free kicks so I assume he was told to do so by his coach. I also know for a fact that ALL teams and officials were issued with a very clear code of conduct before the event and given clear instructions to pass this information on to their families, and that the abuse this child umpire received at the hands of this team was appalling.

To set the record straight, the tribunal hearing decided that the coordinator does not have to be stood down. from what i heard the young umpire involved as well as the head junior umpire both changed there stories when questioned by the SFL tribunal.

So i know of one person that has got off at the tribunal this year!!!

No over-confidence whatsoever CT, just a little banter to settle the nerves. Bombers have lost their last 2 GF's and Reynella their last 6 so I doubt either camp is claiming this one in advance.

Who will get the umpiring gig this week ?

If its the umpires from sundays b grade game, then UFC 2010 could be the title for any promotional work. No control and little risk of any reports.

Don't know who this young bloke was but after seeing the poor guys reaction after the game near the change rooms and hearing what went on no wonder he was so devestated. No one wants to see a bloke miss a grand final under these circumstances..good luck to all involved on the weekend (except Brighton) come on the Wineflies.

wonder if the rumoured $800 per game for the ex Port Power player is now considered worth it by RFC?

I find it difficult to believe that anyone would be paid that much in the SFL but seeing this kid run like the wind he may very well be worth it.....
