"interesting" Christmas music

Postby Pseudo » Sun Dec 18, 2011 7:34 pm

Goodpeople

Recommend to me some Christmas-themed songs which are somehow "interesting".

For example, versions of traditional Christmas songs done in an offbeat, unusual or non-traditional style, like:

Oh Come All Ye Faithfull by Twisted Sister (!)
Mary's Boy Child by Boney M
Silent Night by Klaus Nomi

Or some offbeat Christmas-themed songs, or Christmas offerings from unusual artists, like:

Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses
Merry Christmas by Wesley Willis
Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt
Happy Christmas (War is Over) by The Incredible Penguins (!)
I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas by Patsy Biscoe (!!)

I plan to cobble together a little compilation of offbeat Christmas music for playing on the day, if I can find enough tracks which appeal to me. So let's have your ideas...

The Pogues always get a play on Christmas Day in my house.

As does Paul Kelly.

As a long standing member of the REM fanclub each year they send out a double sided Christmas single - last one this year of course.
'Christmas Griping' is pretty cool

Christmas at Ground Zero from Weird Al Yankovic. Nothing to do with September 11, but nuclear bombs dropping on Christmas Day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t039p6xqutU

He's also recorded a song "The Night Santa Went Crazy", about Santa getting maggotted then blowing the elves and reindeer away.

Its also hard to go past David Bowie and Bing Crosby duetting on Little Drummer Boy
