Uni market days were always good for vinyl.

Ours was every Wednesday and you'd pick up records for $3 max.

That was before the hipsters cottoned-on but...

I went to Semaphore today as well Gozu.

Picked up a few new and 2nd hand vinyls.

It was a bit easier to get around this year in the hall.

Good stuff Southee.

When I went I found it to be only slightly less packed than the one there earlier this year.

With the stalls out the back too the Masonic Hall is really too small a venue for it.

Would you beleive I did not go out to the back stalls. I stopped myself as I had already done enough damage and did not want to see something I wanted to buy. Mrs. Southee would have kicked me out if I went over the budget!!!

Just for the record ,Southee went on a spending spree
When I last saw him he was drooling over a Lynyrd Skynyrd album
Southee is an Album addict

On 20/10/2012 it will the 35th anniversary of when 3 of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band members died in a plane crash
In 1977 Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines all lost their lives

and you can always visit the micro brewery behind the markets when finished shopping ;)

The purple vinyl of va va voom is pretty sweet too!

Sounds like you guys got some winners. Some of DW's prices are amazing!

I spent the summer break trawling the record stores of Seattle (Easy St Records - awesome), Calgary and New York State esp. Picked up a good mix of old and new. But something I've noticed in every 2nd hand store over here is that they all have multiple copies of Split Enz's True Colours and Hunters & Collectors 'Fate', which I think was the Yank version of What's a Few Men? The occasional Paul Kelly 'Gossip' too. Weird.

All really good knick CDs and covers too. Was quite amazed.
Decided not to buy any vinyl, although I saw some good Parliament and Public Enemy albums, because my player's not set up at the moment. But...that will all change once we move into our new house.

Just had a bit of a spending spree here locally in Kingston - cool little record fair with lots of near mint and in most cases dirt cheap vinyl. I have 3 boxes now to send home. ****!!

Anyway, chiefly for DW and Southee, and anyone else who's interested, these were my finds today..

Church - Remote Luxury ($1 mint!)
Kirsty Maccoll - Kite (the one with lots of Johnny Marr :)
New Order - Brotherhood recent reissue
Morrissey - Swords (b sides collection 2xlp)
REM - Dead Letter Office (b sides collection)
Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet (prob the worst condition one but you rarely see the white cover edition)
Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels (still sealed $1 - worth it for Continental Drift, awesome song)
Cars - Greatest Hits (hey, it is mint and cost $1 - a guilty pleasure)
Pink Floyd - Final Cut (one of my fave Floyd albums probably because it sounds very little like Pink Floyd!)
B52s - Funplex (poptastic last album, produced by Steve Osborne - Happy Mondays, New Order, Perfecto etc)
and best of all a couple of mint Lee Hazlewood Lps which go for silly money on eBay, about the only place you can find them

Ohhhhh Lee Hazlewood. Nice.
The Cars are growing on me, actually.
And, in some ways, I regret my Beatlescentric youth and wish I'd explored the Stones more.
Some good bargains there.

The greatest hits of The Cars is about all you need. Good little band.

A local saw me buying the Church album and wanted to talk Aussie punk which he loves. Claims to have seen Radio Birdman in Canada back in the day. A record store I was in last week in Ottawa was named after them so they must have had some kind of impact here.

Reading Keef's autobiog at the moment so am going through a bit of a Stones reassessment. Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed just brilliant records from start to finish. Exile and Sticky Fingers have their charms. Get Yer Ya Yas Out a pretty cool live album. But there's very few Stones albums overall that aren't padded out with loads of filler. That's the big difference between them and the Beatles IMO.

Longevity may account for that big difference ;)
I actually like their new single. It's the gutsiest sounding thing they've done since the early 80s, from my limited knowledge base
