Lou Reed has passed on at 71. Shouldn't be surprised really but still a bit of a shock. A ground breaker with the Velvet Underground and Godfather to the punk movement. RIP Lou,

He's been an influence on most rock/punk/metal musicians, whether they realize it or not. The world is richer for having had him around for so long.

The last question on QandA last night was put to the whole panel. It was what was your favorite Lou Reed song. Christopher Pyne said he was a child of the 70s and that Lou Reed was not relevant in that era. When the audience sniggered at his answer he went on to say that it was typical of the ABC show to finish off on a question about a drug addict musician.
Apart from the ill informed reaction to the singer's health issues Pyne was probably unaware of Reed's contribution to music since the 60s and that he has been awarded the Commander of Arts and Letters from the French government.
I would love to go through Christopher's music collection and throw out the albums made by musos who took drugs....the answers may surprise Doogie Howser MP.
