There were a couple of upsets in Divvy IV this week with the biggest one being battling Giants Legends knocking off ladder leaders Bison Generics in true Adelaide Crows fashion. It wasn't just a one point squeaker though, it was a two hundred point pounding that came totally out of the blue. Bison's heavy defeat saw them drop to second after Unrealistic Attempt dumped the Sneaky Turtles out of the top eight in a much closer encounter. Other upsets include a big win by a suddenly back in form Fantasy Virgin who cleaned up harryshawks and Cathy's Cream rising to the top after getting the better of Power Failure.

It was another good week for Robsquad who continued with their good form of recent weeks and the same goes for Brodlach who are now inside the op eight after copping a few losses earlier in the season. King Cobwebs are looking better in recent weeks and Chokin Tuna is battling side that managed a win but there as no love for the bottom three as they all lost again. It wasn't a good round for Red Devils and Go Tiges who lost a bit of ground on the top eight with Sneaky Turtles perhaps the only side outside of the eight that looks a likely challenger.

The father son battle between Brodlach and Sneaky Turtles was a key fixture this week with the Bombers' victory really putting the heat on junior. Sneaky was looking much better than Dad during the early rounds but that situation that has reversed in recent weeks and now the Turtles have dropped to 10th. Go Tiges was a surprise winner this week as Unrealistic put in a second shocker in a row to fall to an upset loss. Bison was the big winner even though they struggled as well, falling over the line against the battling West Coast Wonders by 28 points in their match.

The big scorer of the round was Fantasy Virgin who have suddenly discovered a rich vein of form. The Swanettes racked up 2375 which would have been too much for all of the teams in this league with Robsquad the unlucky side to cop the Fantasy avalanche. Giants legends and Chokin tuna are other battling sides to get win but Cathys Cream was more convincing as they smashed top four Liams Layabouts.

So we have a few sides in the eight who are struggling a bit while some teams in the wrong half of the ladder are starting to wake up a bit in recent weeks. WIth the bye period coming up there could be more boilovers to come.

You’d like to get Fantasy Virgin when the Swans have the bye, last count had 10 Sydney players in her team.

The bye period began with a couple of the top sides appearing to be caught out by missing players. Bison Generics did not fare well in this bye round and had the misfortune to play a contender who was in Power Failure. The Fails have had a couple of rough weeks lately but appear to have their season back on track and that was a fine win to bring down the Bison who lost top spot on the ladder. Another former ladder leader in Unrealistic Attempt is also struggling to score points at the moment and the Cathy's Cream certainly rose to the top in their clash as the Unrealistics were flogged by a massive 600 points which has seen Cathy climb into the top eight.

Liam's Layabouts are the new ladder leader after flying under the radar for the past couple of weeks. Giants Legends had been in decent recent form but could not match the layabouts who leapfrogged the Bison to top the table. Robsquad have been on the move for several weeks and they made out well this week as well. The squad got the better of the battling Red Devils and Rob looks like he's got himself a top four berth on the go this year.

All of the sides in the bottom half of the eight all had wins with Brodlach in form at the moment and harryshawks has also appeared to find that winning feeling. Fantasy Virgin carded a decent score to once again emerge as a challenger but King Cobwebs, Sneaky Turtles and Go Tiges all had weeks they rather forget. Razorbacks have got a stone cold lock on the spoon now that Bikers babes and West Coast won thier matches on the weekend.

Even though we had a couple of extra sides in this week, it was still a pretty tough bye round. However, someone forgot to tell Liams Layabout and Go Tiges who racked up a decent score to secure important victories on the weekend. The Layabouts made light work of the Bisons in the match of the round with Liam the team to beat in Division IV at this stage of the season. Go Tiges has been a bit like the Richmond Tigers in that they've looked gone at times this year but unlike the TIges Stewie has secured a fine victory to keep his season alive as he keeps in touch with the eight.

Cathy's Cream won the St Kilda of the week award for Divvy IV this round after a heartbreaking eight point loss to Brodlach who's Bombers are starting to string some wins together now. The Bombers are sitting nice and comfy in the top four while the narrow loss punted Cath from the eight as Fantasy Virgin gleefully snaffled her spot as her Swans were all over Chokin tuna. It was a similar story for PowerFailure who must be kicking himself after deciding that Cam's Eagles will play against them after all. It is history now that the battling West Coast Wonders got the win and aren't the bye weeks just grand folks...Wonders says yes!

A couple of top eight sides got the wobbles this week but most of the teams outside the eight are too far away to give them any concerns. The Cobwebs smashed the Red Devils but sides such as Giants Legends are a bit too far behind at this stage. That goes the same for Bikers Babes Best who should avoid the spoon after defeating the luckless Razorbacks who went within 13 points of opening his account for the season.

Top team Liams Layabouts were the highest ranked casualty of the nuclear bye round where all bets were off as far as Hogg results go, um...not that there are any Hogg markets available on Rortsbet. Fellow contender Powerfailure gleefully swooped on a four hundred point win with the percentage boosting win keeping the fails hovering on the edge of the top four. Another top side to feel the brunt of nuclear bye round was Robsquad who were smashed by nearly seven hundred points by the standout side for the round, Go Tiges. Stewie has never had any Hogg success before but the Tiges have rebounded strongly in recent weeks and they look like a very strong contender for finals action this season.

Brodlach Bombers had a real crack despite the odds being against them. Brod copped Giants legends, a team packed with Giants funnily enough and the Bombers made a good account of themselves despite the odds being stacked against them. In the clash between early ladder leader, Bison Generics scored well to defeat an unlucky Unrealistic Attempt who returned to some scoring form after going missing for the past few rounds.

Eighth spot appears to be something of a revolving door and this week it is Cathy's Cream who have walked in the door after Swans filled Fantasy Virgin became Razorbacks' first win for the season. The Virgins were full of Swans who weren't there and Bretty got the easy win. It was the same situation for second last Biker Babes who won their second match in a row against what was left of the West Coast Wonders who rolled out more than a few Eagle bagels for the round.

With all hands back on deck in the immediate post-bye round we can look at the scoring patterns of the contenders to find out who the label applies to. Liams Layabouts continue to top the table but perhaps some of the other leading teams are better equipped to challenge for Division III next season. The teams in the top eight will be looking over their shoulders at Fantasy Virgin after Amy carded yet another impressive score on the weekend. Apart from a Swan bye week that sunk the Virgins, they have been in top form in the last few weeks and 2422 would have beaten most of the teams in the entire Hogg, let alone in Divvy IV. Bikers Babes put up a good showing as well but all she got for her efforts was a hiding that closed the door on the Bikers' season, if it wasn't already shut.

The big match of the round was between Bison and Brodlach with the Yaks saluting to join the Laybouts up top. Brod looks a likely top four side this season and they were not disgraced in the 38 point defeat. I reckon a rematch might be happening in August with these two sides. Cathy is also looking pretty suave as they creamed (ha ha) poor old Robsquad whose scoring has dried up a bit in recent weeks with rd getting the wobbles. The Sneaky Turtles also scored well and they need to keep doing that as they are playing catch up football at the minute, one game out of the eight with fellow contenders harryshawks, King Cobwebs and as above Fantasy VIrgin all amongst the points. Unrealistic and Power Failure failed to flatter last week with Unrealistic Attempt going down the drain a rapid rate of nots. one more loss sees them out of the eight. Meanwhile, the Red Devils managed a low scoring victory over the bottom side which might suggest he's won his last match for the year.

It could be ladies night come August in Division IV if last week's results are anything to go by. Eighth ranked Fantasy Virgin has been racking up some pretty good scores in recent weeks and Amy was at it again this week with a solid 2357 to smash hubby West Coast Wonders in a result that got Fantasy Virgin into the top eight. Cathy is looking pretty good as well. Another big score this week as Cathys Cream scored an important win over King Cobwebs who was after her spot in the top eight.

There has been a change in leadership in the league as the wobby layabouts couldn't get the job done against Unrealistic who has been off the boil for some weeks. Bison had an important win by 15 points over harryshawks in a result that put the Bison on top and the young hawks out of the eight . Sneaky Turtles appear to be back in town and might replace Dad in the eight after a spectacular implosion by Brodlach who were well beaten by top four contenders PowerFailure.

Robsquad got back on the winners list but failed to flatter and Go Tiges has all but undone a season of good work with a truly shitful performance in a defeat to lowly Chokin tuna. Hats off to Red Devils who have hit rock bottom with a score of 1648 which was the lowest in the Hogg by some distance. Quality work there Red.

18 Razorbacks 1 14 25043 29229 85.68 4

Close results were the order of the day as the whips have started cracking on the run into the finals. It was a very important three point win for Brodlach Bombers who snaffled a very close win over the Layabouts in a result that could secure a finals place for Brodlach. Two teams who failed to get the job done last weekend will be shaking their heads if they can't manage to qualify for the finals. Sneaky Turtles unleashed a pretty good score but fell six points shy of a vital win against a Bikers Babes combination playing only for pride this season. harryshawks didn't get quite as close as the Layabouts and Sneaky Turtles but they'll be wondering where this season has got away from them after putting on 2341 and being well beaten by a red hot PowerFailure.

PowerFailure is emerging as a genuine premiership contender but other teams are also getting stronger at the right time of the year. Bison Generics continue to top the table after dismissing a struggling Robsquad by over 200 points. Cathy's Cream continued with their great run of form proving far too good for Chokin tuna and Fantasy Virgin look a genuine flag chance as they smashed the Red Devils by nearly 800 points in a real percentage booster.

There's still two rounds to go with Go Tiges and King Cobwebs keeping their season alive and you can't discount harryshawks or Sneaky Turtles but they'd want to get a move on. In the eight the two vulnerable sides are Robsquad and certainly Unrealistic Attempt who haven't looked like it for the past two months or so.

Top side Bison Generics rolled out the heavy artillery in what must surely be a massive tank to help get King Cobwebs into the finals. The ICAC has been informed and men with dark suits and glasses are bashing down Bison's door to investigate this dastardly deed. The top side of the league, and its second top scorer, put in a tanking effort that would make Carlton blush with the Cobwebs being the major beneficiary. Hmmm....something smells with that one boyos!

In other news, lurking top four hope Fantasy Virgin smashed out another top score to end the Sneaky Turtles season. With one week to go all of the top sides will be hoping that Fantasy doesn't make it as Amy has been smashing it in recent weeks and they are a real force in this division. If they only have to win three finals they'll do so IMO. It wasn't much better for Dad as Brodlach's Bombers failed to secure their spot losing a crucial encounter to Unrealistic Attempt who may have booked their own spot with the vital victory. Unrealistic got up by just six and there were a few other nailbiters as well. Giants Legends won the 'playing for pride' match against Chokin tuna but two points and PowerFailure's 25 point win over a suddenly battling Robsquad could spell curtains for the squad, especially after the King's amazing legup.

Round 17 Preview

Fixture – Tips in bold.

West Coast Wonders vs. Brodlach Bombers
Sneaky Turtles vs. Red Devils
harryshawks vs. Unrealistic Attempt
Go Tiges vs. Fantasy Virgin
Liams Layabouts vs. Robsquad
Cathy’s Cream vs. Bikers Best
King Cobwebs vs. Powerfailure
Giants Legends vs. Razorbacks
Chokin tuna vs. Bison Generics

Preview
Powerfailure’s match against King Cobwebs is the key clash here in the final round I feel. The Cobwebs got a huge legup last week thanks to a ridiculous assist from Bison. Failure will offer no such assistance and they’ll hold on to second and push Cobwebs’ percentage down. The team who will reap the benefits will be harryshawks who should get the job done against higher placed Unrealistic Attempt. There’s not much between the percentage and when the dust clears I reckon it’s harry in for Cobwebs.

Broadlach should hang on to his top eight spot with a win over the Wonders but Robsquad is not beating Liams Layabouts so it’s game over for rd. Fantasy Virgin is in red-hot form and could do some serious damage to Go Tiges and leapfrog the Layabouts into fourth spot. Cathy’s Cream has a reasonably tough match against Bikers Babes but Cath should be too good and hold her to four spot.

REB's Top Eight
1. Bison Generics
2. PowerFailure
3. Cathy’s Cream
4. Fantasy Virgin
5. Liams Layabouts
6. Brodlach Bombers
7. Harryshawks
8. Unrealistic Attempt

Anyhow, have a good one.

18 Razorbacks 2 15 28747 33330 86.25 8

The minor round is run and won with PowerFailure snaffling the minor premiership from Bison Generics in the last round. The Bison has been on the charge for the majority of the season but they have staggered over the finish line and now look vulnerable in the finals. Not so Fantasy Virgin who threw down the gauntlet with another big win as they captured the all important double chance in the finals. PowerFailure’s reward for finishing top is a match up against the rampant fantasy, a match up that none in this division should relish.

Liams Layabouts shoddy finish to the minor round continued as they missed the double chance and they now face a tricky final against proven major round specialists harryshawks who pounced on the top eight spot vacated by Unrealistic Attempt and King Cobwebs. The other team to sneak in at the last minute was Robsquad who turned things around in time to deservedly qualify for the finals.

The team with the biggest regret must be Sneaky Turtles who are one of the top scoring teams in the league. How they managed to miss the eight in this league will remain a mystery but with only eight wins they didn’t get close. Razorbacks was the unbackable spoon favourite at the start of the year and he duly collected but not before ending his season on a high with a rare victory to finish his season.

Looking ahead I’m liking Fantasy Virgin for the flag. Promotion is not quite as clear but harryshawks and Brodlach Bombers look like bolters from the bottom half of the eight to make life difficult for the likes of Bison whose point scoring appears to have deserted them at the wrong time of the year.

Finals Week One

Qualifying Finals
Fantasy Virgin 2486
Powerfailure 2374

Bison Generics 2477
Cathy's Cream 2232

Elimination Finals
harryshawks 2395
Liams Layabouts 1943

Robsquad 2353
Brodlach Bombers 2075

Ah, a couple of sneaky fellas down here in Division IV or so it seems. Bison had been lurking on the outskirts over the last two weeks of the minor round and his scoring suggested he had fired his bullets and appeared done. Wrong again REB because once the finals started here comes Bison! Bison smashed Cathy's Cream to advance to the Preliminary Final and thus earn promotion to Hogg Division III. Well played sir. The other side who earned promotion is Fantasy Virgin who have been the form team of the second half of the season. PowerFailure threw the kitchen sink at Amy but the Virgins came through in fine style and she will be suiting up in the higher grade next season.

With two other spots available to go up it is hard to go past PowerFailure but they will be up against harryshawks who have a great finals record. This record improved last weekend after they eliminated the Layabouts who were the pacesetters during the first half of the season. Robsquad is another team who has sniffed the smelling salts in recent weeks and they sailed past a disappointing Bombers' outfit to keep the dream alive.

Semi Finals - winners promoted and advance to Prelim finals, losers out.

Semi Finals

1st Semi Final
Powerfailure 2163
harryshawks 2071

2nd Semi Final
Cathy's Cream 2319
Robsquad 2176

The top four sides at the end of the minor round have duly qualified for the Preliminary Finals next week as Cathy's Cream and Powerfailure both got the job done in what was a tough week in SuperCoach. Late outs , mid-game injuries and underperforming premos where the order of the day this week in a round that saw thousands of teams across the land posting much lower scores than usual at this time of year. This didn't seem to effect Cathy tho who posted a pretty solid 2319 which was far too strong for Robsquad who despite having a fine season, is remaining in Division IV next season. It's the end of the line too for harryshawks who got as far as the semis but well short of last year's blistering unbeaten season in Divvy V.

Looking ahead still liking Virgin for the flag but Cathy and Bison appear to have the ceiling to match them. Not as sure about Powerfailure though I reckon he might struggle to keep up with Bison next week but the all ladies final should be a ripper. Congratulations to all sides on earning promotion next season.

Thanks for the updates during the season REB. I had tinkered with the Robsquad and had them primed for an assault during the finals and a possible promotion to Div III and the first week of the finals went to plan. But for the semi finals Dangerfield got his throat rearranged early on and Mills (without cover) decided to not play during the warmup and those 2 players probably cost me at least 160 points. And the Robsquad lost their semi by 143...So much for the pre-finals planning. Good luck to the remaining teams and see you next year - for me sadly in Div IV...

Preliminary Finals

1st Preliminary Final
Fantasy Virgin 2092
Cathy's Cream 2068

2nd Preliminary Final
Powerfailure 2107
Bison Generics 2053

The minor premier is OUT after Powerfailure upstaged Bison in the 2nd Preliminary Final in Division IV. All of the Division IV sides struggled this week but Powerfailure carded a respectable score to upend the Bisons and advance to next week's Grand Final. In the all ladies affair in the 1st Semi the favourite Fantasy Virgin saluted but with a much lower score than she has been racking up most weeks. Having Lloyd and Mills has certainly hurt Amy's score but next week all SuperCoaches will be sweating on the return of the Seagull. Word about the place is that Mills might not be ready until the end of the SC season so everyone will be looking at trades they don't have and Fantasy is no exception.

Grand Final

Powerfailure vs. Fantasy Virgin

It's been an impressive run by Fantasy Virgin to make the Grand Final and I tipped Amy to salute before the finals and see no reason to change my tip now even though Fantasy only just scraped home against Cathy last week. Powerfailure have been one of the most consistent teams in the comp and deserve their spot but I reckon Fantasy will get home in a close one.
