that's OK then ... was the penalty another 'administrative error'?

Although the penalty was soft i reckon there was contact made, seen those decisions go either way.
And those calling Berisha a cheat just think that any other player on either side would have done the same.
Do find it funny that the Aussie rules people have a crack at soccer but find it perfectly acceptable that guys like Selwood duck their heads to earn frees and that it good when players milk frees

The value of a penalty to a free kick in footy isn't equal .. You are spot on though, simulation exists in both sports .. In one its accepted and in the other it's venomously scorned

Great post!

anytime you make contact with a player in the box and not the ball the consequence maybe a penalty. Thats why its so important late in the game to just get the ball in the ol mixer hey! lol.

Rubbish post.

Firstly if there was contact, it was the equivalent of wet lettice.
Second the clown who got the penalty then preceded to carry on like they'd already won the game.
Third to compare the average free that Selwood might receive (earnt or not) and the average penalty in soccer is laughable.

It's for those reasons like this that soccer will never get mainstream acceptance in Australia.

Was Bullshit. Never a penalty. Any muppet trying to convince anyone it was needs a hit on the head with a lettuce leaf....

Berisha should've been given a straight RED for the dive, looked like he was shot.

Terrible decision. Feel for the Glory Holes.....

I always thought a penalty was for a foul in the box - can anyone seriously suggest that was a foul?

Mitch Nichols came out and said he didn't think it was a penalty at all. Hard to make a case for Berisha when teammates are of that opinion.

No conflict of interest there

Refs boss defends grand final referee Jarred Gillett after it emerged his girlfriend works for Brisbane Roar

by: Marco Monteverde From: The Courier-Mail April 24, 2012 12:00AM

REFEREES boss Mark Shield knew of A-League grand final referee Jarred Gillett's relationship with a Roar staff member before appointing him to officiate in Brisbane's 2-1 title win over Perth Glory.

Gold Coaster Gillett's contentious decision to award the Roar a match-swinging penalty in the dying stages of Sunday's final at Suncorp Stadium caused an uproar, more so after it emerged his girlfriend Michelle Tobin works part-time in the club's communications department.

Ms Tobin was in tears after the match after the news spread on social networks and was given yesterday off by the club.

But Shield dismissed suggestions he made the wrong decision to appoint 25-year-old Gillett - who this month received the referee of the year award - to officiate the grand final.

"Referees don't mind criticism on individual decisions but linking that debate to previous matches, the state in which the referee resides or matters to do with his personal life are out of order," Shield said. "We wanted our best official performing in the grand final, and that and that alone was taken into consideration with the appointment of the grand final (referee)."

Shield also said Gillett had made the correct call in awarding Brisbane the penalty, despite claims from the Perth camp that Roar striker Besart Berisha had barely been touched by Glory midfielder Liam Miller before falling to the ground.

"My very first instinct was (it was a) penalty at the time," Shield said.

"Like everyone else, I've had a look at the replay and there's some inconclusive angles but there's one particular angle that shows, in my view, that there was enough contact to warrant a penalty given.

"His general decision-making was excellent, player management and game control exemplary, and in my view he showed a great example for aspiring referees."

Roar director Chris Fong said it was ludicrous to suggest that Gillett's relationship with Ms Tobin should have led to him being stood aside for the showpiece match.

"It's just wrong to think that," he said.

"There's no suggestion at all that anything wrong was done."
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

First time I've seen it .. I wouldn't have awarded a penalty, but to the letter of the law I guess it's there.

FFS, pathetic.
How many times a game would that happen and no foul is awarded!
To decide a grand final on that is a joke.
