Handshakes before a game

Following the John Terry/Anton Ferdinand handshake fiasco in the QPR v Chelsea match, I think it's nigh time the Premier League stopped these forced pre-game routines of players shaking the hand of opposition players. That sort of thing has it's place in Cup finals and is not needed in a normal home and away match.

In Aussie Rules, players shake hands after the game out of genuine respect for each other and that's when it should happen. It's a sincere gesture..not an obligation.

Yes I know. The point I was making is that the only time it needs to happen is after the game.

most AFL games i played in, 95% of the oppostion would come and shake my hand before the ball is bounced, not the whole team, but your oppostion player who is standing next to you....

my coach continually said dont shake their hands before the game thou , as we are not out there to make friends but to win the game

but out of respect i did always , coach never noticed.

Was just taking the piss mate .. Hate it when the term AFL is used for "Aussie Rules".

As for the handshaking before a game, Im not a big fan of any forced situation .. But I'm also not as familiar with the traditions of the game, so not really fussed too much either way

But Bully I bet your team wasn't forced to walk the line of opposition players before the game and shake hands with each of them.

JK wondered whether it's a tradition in English soccer. It's not. My dad watched football back in the 50's and 60's over there and says it never happened. It's a stunt that the FA has instigated in the last few seasons, probably for TV.

If they abandoned the practice it would prevent those embarrassing moments like we've had with Luis Suarez and John Terry in the last two seasons.

difference is JT is actually not guilty. people just want him to be guilty cause they hate him so much. JT maybe a lot of things, a great footballer, a **** and a adulter but he isn't a racist.
