V8 Supercars - Ford out

So Ford is out of V8 Supercars. What does this mean for touring car racing in Australia? It probably means the end of V8 racing but does it have to? Instead of watching turbos and V6s go around why not GO RETRO.

Imagine Monaros, Brocky Toranas, Shakers, XBs and Chargers all racing again. Throw in a few Minis just to piss everyone off. The Bogans would love it and that's who follows V8s anyway.

Why so serious?

regards,

REB

Ford will still have a presence, DJR/Penske have committed to running Fords in 2015 & 2016. I dare say Prodrive (FPR) will also continue to run Fords unless big dollars come up from a rival.

The V8 formula will be killed off at the end of 2016, with 4 & 6 turbos being allowed in 2017. The formula will also be tweaked to allowed 2 door cars in 2017, allowing for the return of the Mustang (the most successful car model in ATCC history :D ) to the ATCC. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ford return if that's the case.

Plenty of Retro categories around REB, Group N has been around for yonks & Biante series (although lacking the variety of N).

Ford pulling out is the least of the worries for the series, the move to Foxtel & the potential bogan uproar is 2017 pose much bigger threats.

Yep Prodrive and DJR/Penske will become what Erebus is to Mercedes. The car manufacturer won't be chucking in cash but will let them develop their equipment to suit.
