Been to the Caulfield Cup and    .

It started out OK, but as the day went on and the drinks flowed....WOW there was some interesting behaviour!

Bloody great day though. I'd love to head over for the cup one day.

Melbourne Cup is one of those things everyone should do once. Be prepared for the prices. $70 general admission on the day, plus, unless you are lucky and are within walking distance of the track, tram fares etc. Mates and I stayed at the Footscray Motor Inn, so only a short walk from Flemington, highly recommend it, although has risen in price considerably from when we were there in 2000.

If you aren't fussed about seeing the race itself from close up, then seats won't matter. It's more the experience than anything else. Expect to pay a fair amount for food, drinks, but if you are lucky, the day may not cost a heap. Simply massive crowds throughout any part of the course, but a great sporting experience. We backed up for the Oaks a couple of days later and its a very different crowd that day. Single blokes will have a ball, single ladies looking for single blokes - this is your day :)
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

After heading to the Cox Plate last year and having an absolute blast, I'm Lining the Melbourne Cup up with a fairly big weekend in Melbourne this year.

Friday - Melbourne vs Adelaide (A-League)
Saturday - Derby Day
Sunday - Australia vs England (Rugby League)
Tuesday - Melbourne Cup

I managed to score a $79 qantas flight coming back at 7pm on tuesday night, will have to wait and see how I go backing up for work wednesday morning ;) , not looking forward to that part

I went last year and got a ticket at the gate just before the first race, about 70 bucks I think. I stayed in Essendon and prebooked a cab to the track, only cost about 15 bucks from memory. Then off to the Casino afterwards to spend a bit more.

I saw Makybe's first win.
Brilliant day... can't remember too much. But we got there early, when Sunrise were doing the brekky show and put down our rug on the home stretch somewhere. Awesome!!

I've managed to get on a plane rather intoxicated a couple other times undetected, so fingers crossed for this one, a change of clothes might be in order though, as to not draw attention to the fact I've been on the piss at the races all day

Derby day was a bit of a write off due to the weather, Cup day was a much nicer day, made even better by the fact i had the winner and trifecta in the main race :D
