You will miss all the roadworks. There is a small roadwork going on at the corner of Auburn/Saddleworth turnoff but its now just a slowdown to 40, no stopping etc.

Not sure if your planning on it but hearing really great things about the Watervale hotel which is five minutes up the road. Pretty expensive apparently but really good quality food/service/setting, I haven't been there though.

If your willing to go ten minutes up the road the Sevenhill Hotel is absolute top shelf quality for real decent pub prices. Ask for a table down in the cellar and you will be in the good books with the misses for the rest of the year, imo the most stunning dining room in SA (the cellar dining, not the main dining room)
Many years ago obviously but when we lived up there the Sevenhill Hotel did the best meals in the region. Even back then you had to book in advance.
The Hoyleton used to only do meals on Fridays but were amazing and folks used to come from miles away to eat there

Yeah Sevenhill have won the 'National best country dining award' the last 3 years in a row.

Absolute quality. The place is a bit bigger these days and has alfresco dining so normally you don't have to many problems getting a table unless you want one down in the cellar.

I'm planning lunch at Reillys in Mintaro next Thursday.

Every chance I may have stopped off at Taylors for an aperitif before hand though!

Nice, I haven't eaten at Riellys, would highly recommend O'Leary Walkers over Taylors.

I will book in at Sevenhill.

Apparently there's a good Indian joint there also??

Awesome....let us know how you go at Sevenhill, definitely ask for a table in the cellar, doesn't cost any extra or anything.

Yeah Indii (Indian Restaurant) on main street is real real real good as well. Next door to is a little wine bar, its not my favourite but it compliments the dinner beautifully and is nice 'entree' to going to the Indian.

The local Clare Derby is the footy game this week, round 1, no netball last year but returning now I reckon the whole of Clare will be rocking this weekend with a great vibe.

This should also go in the Restaurant review thread but anyhow

Popped into Sevenhill for lunch.
Not 100% sure what is happening on any of the days, so thought I would get in while there was an opening. Didn't want to be rushing around etc.
Got a spot in the cellar. Even for the non wine connoisseur the ambience down there is something else.

The food was on another level.
Even the garlic bread tasted good...
The Mrs went the chicken parmi and was salivating about it.
I went the barramundi which was in a red curry broth with noodles... bloody hell never had anything like it before and it was just magnificent.

We also shared a dessert and went the doughnut balls served with an icecream, kit kat crumble and a chocolate sauce... my word....

Also grabbed a bottle of Kilikanoon Prodigal granache as the Mrs did enjoy the granache from Seppeltsfield.

The service was also first class.

All up cost $127 with a couple of drinks.

Glad you had a great experience.

Its an absolute gem...…the owner is a city boy turned country and deserves all the success he has, worked bloody hard to turn the pub into what it is and i know how hard its been for him transitioning from what it was to the vision he had especially in a country environment where standards aren't always high.

@mightytiger.

Any chance you could put your review in the restaurant review thread.

Admittedly I'm close mates with the Sevenhill owner and would love to see a good review read by people that may be interested.

Booked a luxury houseboat from Young Husband for 7 nights in November. Now I just have to fill it up! Who's keen? 8)

Two nights at Butlers Beach, 15km's from Marion Bay in an Eco Hut. 24v power, gas cooking, wind and solar power only.

F*ck all to do here but drink, fish, sit around the fire, drink, sing, dance a bit if you're drunk enough. We were. Barely any reception on the phone, salmon trout down on the beach. Ripper spot.

I'm in theory travelling by plane to Tullamarine on Sunday and then driving to Ballarat for a 5 week medical locum job, It looks like it will still happen, but it had looked a bit uncertain there for a while. My wife and I have had our Covid vax...
