What are the trackside views of the racing like?
Haven't had a general admission spot since about 2004, but I'd recommend getting there early (like an hour or so before the gates open) if you can do that you should be able to get a spot on one of the public viewing blocks, which are fine, although not the most interesting spots to watch from.
Cheers Sam. Am leaning towards not going at this stage. I remember the General Admission area for the F1 Grand Prix were great for atmosphere but not for viewing, unless you got there early, found a good spot and stayed there until the race started. Not sure if that is going to work with me and two kiddies. Will probably go the telly option...
I've just seen the telly schedule for next saturday and the Clipsal is on channel 7 all afternoon. That seals my decision.

Popcorn, Pretzels, Fizzy drinks and the racing on TV! My boys will love it!

Was talking to a friend yesterday about how Adelaide punches above its weight when it comes to major events. Not just the Clipsal but the Festival of Arts, as well as the Fringe which probably comes second only to Edinburgh as the worlds best. Then we have Womadelaide, Australia's premier world music event.

Even more reason not to drink inside the track, I'll be sticking to my regular routine of a couple of pub sessions throughout the day.

yeah crap bloating middies everywhere but corporate...because its a family show. but apparently that means sheilas wearing not much promoting adult entertainment can still have their photos taken with children as young as 8, helmets that hold 2 beer cans can be sold at official merchandise outlets and at the main entrance theres a massive sign advertising jim beam!? WTF sa motorsport...either tell the truth that you dont want piss heads at the track or do the family thing properly.

good weekend though apparently you can still get drunk on middies if you drink heaps of em really fast!

Could it just be that XXXX is the "Official Beer of V8 Supercars"? So they only want their product sold?

no, a copy of an email i recieved from clipsal 500 is below....

Clipsal 500 Adelaide Mid–Strength Alcohol Policy

A decision has been made by the South Australian Motor Sport Board that only mid-strength beer and spirits is to be served at public bars at the 2011 Clipsal 500 Adelaide event.

The Clipsal 500 Adelaide is a major sporting festival for everyone.

It is for motor racing fans, family groups, and concert goers.

We want everyone to enjoy themselves in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere

This initiative has been strongly supported by the South Australian Police

Many people are at the circuit for most of the day and into the evening, and while there is nothing wrong with having a drink we believe introducing mid strength beer and spirits is a socially responsible initiative to the benefit and safety of all patrons.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Should ask them why the were charging full tote odds for them then.

$6 for a can of mid strength beer and $9 for a can of mid strength spirits is just ridiculous.

I imagine the bar takings would have been down a fair way this year!!

The problem with that then is you miss the action.
