you have to look at how many people in this world drink soft drink. So if what these people are saying is correct then wouldn't everyone that drinks soft drink get sick? It's just like when I hear vegan's say meat will give you cancer and kill you, provide the evidence where someone has died because of meat (and not off meat or somewhere they use a heap of chemicals) then I'll let you keep saying it. The other thing is they might find something wrong with a can of coke but you have to have a look at the bigger picture. How many country's does coke produce product in? I'm pretty sure they produce coke in every state in Australia. Is a can coke made in Australia going to be the same as a can of coke made in USA?

They don't know what they're talking about. Zero calories is zero calories.

The bad press comes from hype about the artificial chemicals contained in them. IIRC, aspartame actually helps to supress appetite.

I thought it was the other way Q, a lot of the sweeteners actually stimulate appetite?

Latest I read on aspartame was of it's appetite supressing qualities. Not sure on all the other crap in these drinks.

No worries Q. Agree, they are like chem labs. Not sure whether all that stuff should be in your body anyway.

My missus put me onto an App the other day called "Food Switch" .. It seems pretty groovy, just scan the barcode (with your phone) of a product and it will list alernate options with better rankings in Fat, Saturated Fat, Sugars, Salt and Energy

I think I posted in here eons ago.
Finally decided to do something about it

I was 109kg New Years Day. Since then I've been eating better. I haven't had Maccas, HJs, KFC et al. I've stopped most coffee and have one a day, and it's black, no sugar. Eating almonds, seeds etc between meals. Having smaller meals. Been walking each day - usually 6km around Wynn Vale/Golden Grove, at a decent pace.

Am now at 102km plus change. Aiming for double figures shortly, which actually excites me.

<edit>
When I "spoil" myself now, it's nothing like it used to be either. Before I'd binge on KFC, then chicken and chips the next day. Half a carton. Whatever.

Now, if I have chips with my steak, it's a guilty pleasure.

I go to a quiz night each Thursday at the Slug and Lettuce. Last night I walked there and felt great for it! Was 8.6km.

Well done Diss, the more you lose, the more you'll kick yourself for not doing it earlier.

I will never forget the first time I could see my slug after so many years, one of those watershed moments.

It's great seeing people I know lose a tonne of weight. I am so used to what they *looked* like, it's a shock, and they look sick!

I've lost about 2" around the waist the past 2 weeks but my weight has gone up 0.5kg in the last 5 weeks, clothes are still getting looser but the scales aren't suffering any less, still reasonably happy losing 13kg since Sept though

I've had a few ask me sheepishly "are you ok" most are just blown away by the amount of size I've lost, 8" gone from around the waist
