Both my lads have just resigned from Woolies after 5 & 7 years stints respectively, its been a great job for them to learn customer service, interact with people, leadership skills and generally how the world lives outside their own little bubble.

Both have been down at Morphettvale store and while it is only 10 mins from our house they have seen plenty which has opened their eyes, but also the most down to earth people who scrape by each week but that doesn't impact their enjoyment of life. They have also made a new circle of friends which will continue on post them leaving.

It has set them up well for their next employer and stage in life, highly recommend it to anyone with kids looking for jobs.

Both of mine served time at Hungry Jacks, one for 4 years and one for 3, it gave them some very sound basics when it comes to the workplace. Punctuality is paramount there, they take no excuses, working in a team in a timely manner and following SOPs and instructions from team leaders.

Every shift they came home exhausted, stinking like a deep fryer but better for the experience, Miss Boon (25) still has her Manager from when she was 16 as her professional reference on her resume. That Manager was once a Team Member, then Manager, then Area Manager and now owns two Hungry Jacks stores in her own right at 35.

That's brilliant Dedja. Hip replacements are a walk in the park (intentional pun!)

Agree Dutchy. My introvert daughter was pretty hesitant in working at our local supermarket as she was dealing with the public. She's seen and dealt with lots over the course of her 4 years there. So much so, that after 1 year she was asked to become a supervisor, the youngest there at the time. She has grown as a person and learnt to deal with all types of people, young, elderly, mentally unstable and people nicking stuff and taking off.

I'm very proud of her for what she's been able to do but also thank the supermarket for seeing leadership qualities in her and giving her the opportunity.

My son started there 2 years ago as well and has also grown personally. He works in a different area, so doesn't have the opportunity to get supervisory advances, however has been asked to do additional duties elsewhere in the supermarket.

They have both got a great range of skills they can add to their resume going forward and also have a circle of friends that they would never have met if not for work.
