Enough to hide his g-string 'whale-tail.'

There are a range of reasons:

1. Prevents the dreaded “muffin-top.”
2. Comfort of the band sitting at the waist rather than tight on the hips.
3. You don't have to Suck in Your Stomach, the high waisted jeans do the work for you, keeping everything in place.
4. Short chicks love them as they make your legs look longer.

How the hell did you know all that?

Dated a few too many fatties in my time.

On a Saturday night in winter I'd normally suggest you default to the darker shades, however in your case, I'd be willing to make an exception as you clearly have the effervescent personality required to pull off a statement piece. Be bold, your party guests will thank you later!

Thank you, you're a very smart man.

When you heat up a coffee in the morning, why don't you put your coffee cup in the microwave facing the other way? ;)

Being a wage earner, if I obtained an ABN number and done some contract work for a business would I still get taxed at 48% being a 2nd income?

The rate of tax is minimised in the first job (your wage position) as you are claiming the general tax exemption. You would have filled this out upon commencement.

The contract work would , in general, be shown on your tax return as income from the ABN that you start.

Your tax rate is wherever your TOTAL income falls,

Australian income tax rates for 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 (residents)
Income thresholds Rate Tax payable on this income
$0 – $18,200 0% Nil
$18,201 – $37,000 19% 19c for each $1 over $18,200
$37,001 – $90,000 32.5% $3,572 plus 32.5% of amounts over $37,000
$90,001 – $180,000 37% $20,797 plus 37% of amounts over $90,000

From the ATO:

Generally, if you're considered a contractor (sole trader with an ABN) you will be required to withhold your own tax and pay your own super. As an employee, your tax is withheld from your pay and super is paid on your behalf (if you're eligible) by your employer. You can find more information about working as an employee or contractor on our website.

As a contractor, you need to report all income you've received under your ABN as this is considered assessable income. Find more information about what to include in your assessable income here. As no tax is withheld from payments made to you, you may wish to enter into the Pay as you go (PAYG) instalment system, where you can make regular payments towards your expected end of year tax liability.

Any expenses you've incurred in running your business that directly relate to earning your assessable income may be claimed as a deduction. You must have spent the money for your business and you must have records to prove it. If the expense relates to both business and private use, you can only claim the business proportion. You can find more information about income and deductions for business here.

When you lodge your tax return, we'll calculate your tax liability based on the information you've provided. When it's finalised we'll send you a Notice of assessment (NOA). Any tax credits paid during the financial year will go towards your tax liability and if there hasn't been enough credit's paid during the year you may end up with a tax bill.
