Went paintballing today with the Jnr Jases and some of their mates...

Cost us an absolute freaking fortune (as I was the one doing the organization) but was amazing fun...

Bloody terrifying in parts when you are pinned down and you can hear the paintballs whizzing past your position. While a very poor comparison, it gives a small sense of perspective of what it would be like in a battle. How you could get whacked and never even see it coming or have an idea of where it came from.

As I said it cost a fortune, but was totally worth it just for the memories made with my kids and their mates.

Paint balling is wicked fun.

Hurts like buggery if you get shot from close range, or get hit in a spot with limited padding.

I went paintballing for my Brother in Law's bucks show about 2 months ago. The instructor was a bit of a limp dick and let us run amok (not the wisest thing to do with a booze filled group of 20 blokes looking to shoot the shit out of each other). We ended up playing what was in hindsight, a pretty harsh game of groom, groomsmen and father of the bride vs. everyone, in a game of capture the compound. They got completely ambushed (no big suprise), and the bride's father copped this from close range:

Expensive, but if you do it as a once off day out- its great fun!

Haha good fun.. but so painful - I hate it! We went to the one out Victor Harbour way for a rugby league end of season trip... no one was smart enough to wear clothes or padding under their overalls and it was brutal.. one poor bloke who kept taking dirty cheap shots ended up getting ambushed - tried to duck for cover in a little hut and everyone just pumped him from close range lol.

Did the Kuitpo forest one a couple of years back. A good variety of scenarios and landscapes to play out your wartime fantasies. Spent the long drive up listening to the "Apocalypse Now' soundtrack (complete with dialogue from the movie) to get us in the mood for combat.

Great fun, but yes it stings like buggery if naked flesh gets hit by a paintball.

I have been to 2 courses. The course out near Monarto was the one I went to recently, but I have also done Kuipto Forest.

there definitely used to be an indoor paintball place down the port. absolutely no idea if it is still running though, would have been 15 years since i was there.....

laser skirmish is good too. there is a place up at inglewood that does it outdoors now, great fun. good workout too, the hills are steeper than they first look

We did a work one once, and sitting in the recovery tent I watched as one our soldiers made his way over .. Took it easy once he got near the tent and copped a shot fair and square in the plums. Never heard the air come out of someone so quickly. Still makes me laugh when I think of it.

The one at Sedan was very strict on face masks being on when "in play" / inside the netted area and no shots being fired outside of said "play" zones. Not sure, as I've only done the one, if these use higher powered guns? They supplied full camo padded overalls and full face/neck masks.

Monarto gave you a helmet, cammo overalls and a chest and back guard.

There was no neck or nuts protection...

Both my youngest (12 yo) and myself copped hits in the neck/throat area... they hurt the most....

I love how SA has an age restriction of 10 minimum and the eastern states the age is either 15 or 16.... They're soft over there :)

i have been to a few different ones over the years, and they are all pretty strict on that. no loaded markers in "safe" areas and very strict on face/eye protection. i wouldnt be surprised if it was part of their licencing requirements*, as well as being common sense obviously.

*paintball markers are actually classed as a firearm in this country. all the same storage requirements apply to them as any other class a or b firearm (rifles, shotguns), and the only place they can be legally used is on an approved paintball field, hence they are pretty strict on the rules around them.

i actually toyed with the idea of getting one myself, for "mucking around" out on some mates farms, but once i found out that would be illegal i binned the idea (they arent cheap either). it is a little wierd that i can go shooting with "real" guns out there, targets, clays, even hunt vermin (rabbits and foxes) but couldnt use a legally obtained paintball gun on the same property.....
