The universe works in mysterious ways, sometimes. A little more than "just co-incidence"...

I've spent the last couple of days down at Robe to farewell my uncle, who passed away suddenly on NYD. "Gus", as he was affectionately known, was a big Port man, and was my PAFC historian during my younger years. Together we would watch hours of SANFL vision, in particular "the way it was *insert year*" VHS' that we would find at the local markets, where he set about teaching me about the Magpies champions of yesteryear. We would watch hours of Saturday AFL where he could follow the likes of Craig Bradley, Nathan Buckley, David Hynes, Scotty Hodges, and one young gun in particular - Gavin Wanganeen.

His one big request for when "that time" finally came, was for everyone that attends his service to be kitted out in Power colours to say their farewells, and it was a bloody awesome sight to see the droves of black, white and teal on Monday. Robe absolutely turned it on weather wise, and the service was exactly how he would have pictured it.

For anyone that is familiar with Robe township, his service was held at the Robe Institute & Library, with the paved area/main entrance off of Smillie St. Anyway, post service, as myself and his other pall bearers were placing his coffin onto the hearse and family/friends were saying their final goodbyes, a random gentleman wanders over and taps my cousin on the shoulder to ask what the occasion was, and what all the Power scarves were for. Said gentleman being Gavin Wanganeen.

I want to stress that Wanga's has absolutely no connection to our family in any way, shape or form. He just happened to be in Robe with his family, and happened to be wandering around the beach at that point in time, our congregation catching his eye.

To paraphrase Gus, I thought that was "pretty f*cking cool". He'd have been chuffed.

RIP.
