To me the day represents us as a country warts and all, we remember the bad times but celebrate the good the stuff that binds us together.

I think after seeing the recent election in the USA, it's put a lot of people off a republic.
I'll be stuffed if I have to put up with carry on like that in my country for 2 years out of every 4

Are you seriously suggesting that becoming a republic would mean we had to change to a US style presidential system?
