If the day is moved to another date, would there be any issues still calling it "Australia Day"?

Australia will become a Republic one of these days, then we can celebrate "Australia Day" on that date, for that reason

I like how the same people who say we should move on from what happened 50-230 years ago are also avid fans of Anzac Day and Remembrance Day despite many more Australians dying in the Frontier/Colonial Wars than the two world wars combined.

Okay.. here's another question - how do people feel about the possibility of changing the Australian flag? Is this as sacred as the national holiday? What about the national anthem? Would you be against changing that (again)?

What figures are you suggesting? Henry Reynolds has had a stab through research as have a few others.

As long as we can still riot at Cronulla and get hammered at Angus Neill reserve at Seacliff, who cares what day it is???

In all seriousness I know the day means different things to different people but the majority (inclusive of people from CALD backgrounds) like the day not withstanding to some CALD groups not liking it.

To me the day represents us as a country warts and all, we remember the bad times but celebrate the good the stuff that binds us together.

We"re not a perfect society but we have a lot to celebrate and a lot to make us think of how can we be better as a country.

These are my thoughts as well, sooner the better too.

Once its done (breaking away from monarchy), would like to see something like a 4 day weekend in June, taking over existing Queens Birthday - the Friday could be "Recognition Day" or perhaps "Mabo Day", and the Monday could be "Australian Sovereignity Day".

Start by saying my dad is english born (his parents are Irish) my mum is jamaican born (her dad is jamaican and her mother is english) so i dont have the emotional ties that many others have to the situation.

But that tends to be my opinion on the topic of Jan 26th Australia Day. I can understand though why some people would refer to this as 'Invasion Day' but it is part of our history albeit a dark part of our history.

Flag - yes.

Anthem? Don't see a reason to change it

It would be more appropriate to call January 26 'New South Wales Day' than Australia Day. 26 January 1788 doesn't have much significance to the other states and territories.

It clashes with Republic Day in India. I suggest Feb 29 and make it a 4 day extravaganza.

Politics aint my forte my friend, I figured it went hand in hand.

Obviously not

with a republic our system wouldnt have to change at all - the governor general just becomes the head of state instead of the queens representative and nothing else has to change
