$22 big breakfast
Aside from poached eggs done properly.
Rest was ordinary and on the cool side.

I can't bring myself to buy a breakfast, always grossly overpriced and generally overcooked.

For a decent brekky and coffee you're looking at around $30, can make the same and better at home for around $4.

The missus always gets the shits on with me about it as I always just say to hold off and we'll do a lunch instead.

The coffee debate is ongoing, she loves to get takeaway coffee's or cafe ones, I prefer to buy decent coffee to have at home.

I agree, so over priced for what it is. If away we have some fruit for breakfast if anything then get a decent lunch.

I love starting the day with a big brekky and nice coffee at a decent cafe restaurant. Then happy to have a simple home made ham and salad roll for lunch. Followed by a decent hearty dinner.

My theory is, big brekky and then don't need to eat for rest of the day, particularly when away

Same here, I just think they are a rip off pretty much wherever you go.

On Sunday mornings I'll cook up bacon, kranksy, omelette, hash brown, tomato and capsicum to have with my coffee and juice. It's cooked exactly how I like it and would come in at under $4 per serve.

I went to stop in at Edithburgh for a breakfast and the cheapest thing on their list was a croissant for $13.50.

That’s my theory too but unfortunately I get to lunchtime and I’m hungry again

Arrived at the Grange Hotel for my nieces 16th birthday dinner, 10 people at 6:30. Traditionally late, my brother and family arrive at 6:50.

Table service for meals, we place our order with the 14/15 year old lad who barely had his crayon license. When he walks from the table at 7:10 I wish everyone good luck, something is going to go wrong. Little did I know.

I watch him enter the meals into the touch screen, he flicks through pages back and forth, up and down, takes about 10 minutes to tap in 10 orders. 7:20.

At 8pm I call him over, he asks "Haven't you got your meals?". The table is empty, I point this out to him, off he trots. Comes back "Oh, there's about a 40 minute delay in the kitchen, they'll be about 15-20 minutes".

I said to him to send the manager over, he shrugs his shoulders, says "Not sure what that'll do" and walks off. No manager. 8:15.

I summon a young lady over "Can you check on our meals please? We ordered over an hour ago", without leaving the table she says "They'll be about 15 minutes".

"How do you know that?" -- "I just do".

At 8:30 3 x S&P squid some out. At 8:40 x 3 schnittys, bangers and mash and a burger comes out. At 8:50 a pasta comes out.

Mrs Boon, waiting on a ceaser salad, yes, a salad, is still waiting. At 9:00 this comes out.

I speak to the manager at the table, ask him to review the bill, on the front foot he says "Mate, I was going to do that anyway. I'd like to say it won't happen again but I know it will"

He knocks 30% off the bill. I'm not even reviewing the food.

If the restaurant has become as neglected as the front bar, that place is in strife.

30% off the bill is a bit light.
But the fact the staff, headed by the manager known they are indeed shit is quite appalling

It's the new normal.
Just about every hospitality venue has a majority of new staff. Untrained, inexperienced...

Thats the issue with pubs being on the beach or in great locations - they have no real incentive to improve as they are guaranteed foot traffic even if they are shit!

I see the Grange yesterday advertised for new wait staff, duty manager and hotel manager on Seek.

No limits to your powers Oracle.

On that, I went to the Sailmaster a couple of weeks ago and got the $140 seafood basket thingy, friggin superb.

The soft shell crab got me over the line, there was a bit too much deep fried for my liking, but that's just me, it tastes great but I don't chugging pure cholesterol down my gullet.

Quite quaint on the balcony overlooking the marina too.
