100th VC was awarded yesterday and I don't question why but? The soldiers in the trenches in ww1 who stood up and inch by inch marched through enemy fire surely everyone of them should of received a VC.

To receive one you have to do something that isn't expected of you. Like attracting fire from the enemy to help out fellow soldiers. Mark Donaldson ran out into one of Afghanistan most intense fire fights to save a Afghan interpreter. I read the Australian article on the story and they said he is the last Australian to be killed in Afghanistan, even though our SAS are there until 2020.

Only the 7th or 8th Australian since WW2 to receive the honor.

Not being a smart arse but how do you know the SAS in Afghanistan until 2020.

A relative just departed for a 6 month stint. The Australian Government has a contract for the SAS to be there until 2020. The SAS is basically run separate to the rest of the defence force. I can't remember what year it was but around 2006 we didn't have a single SAS soldier based in Afghanistan.
