Re: Gay marriage, yes or no...?
Yes. I am still flabbergasted that this has been allowed to be such an issue.
I have gay friends, some of them in relationships, and I find it inexplicable that they could not get married.
It's not going to hurt anyone...

I agree MP. The discussion is on the legal definition and implications. Religions can have whatever beliefs they like, I'm fairly certain gay couples couldn't give two hoots what the church does.

Re: Gay marriage, yes or no...?
I'll be very broad here...
In this country, legally, you cannot discriminate against a person/s because of their age, gender, religious beliefs, political affiliation, sexual preference, race, or anything else. That is a fact.
Yet it is also a fact that is you are a homosexual or lesbian person that, legally, you are not allowed to marry.
That defies logic.

Yes, can't see why it can't be legalised, wouldn't effect my life in anyway.
Read on the politics forum that Labour are trying to get the gay marriage law past so they can generate votes for themselves, if true smart move IMO.

Not quite, the Left faction want the laws amended. Given that Gillard opposes it and her cabinet reshuffle has rewarded the right faction of her party I don't think we are likely to see it become official party policy any time soon.

Re: Gay marriage, yes or no...?
I too believe in marriage equality like the majority of Australians.
They're not hurting anyone, good luck to them.
Unfortunately it's looking like this is another example of politicians lagging behind the rest of society (the percentage of politicians that are religious far out number the percentage of religious people in society) and it looks as if Gillard (beholden to the Right) has killed it off by having it sent to a conscience vote rather than changing the ALP's discriminatory platform.

Yes. still cant believe what all the fuss is about. I'm sure when my 10 year old daughters generation get to my age they will be probably be amazed that something that is a no brainer took up so much debate. Bit like aboriginals only getting the vote in their own country till the late 60's

Yes. Shouldn't even be an issue in this day and age, amazed it still seems to be on a political level at some levels.
