I made the point very early on here in this thread. The situation that was trying to be avoided was swamping ICU's and Doctors deciding who lives, and who dies.....that's what happened, as best as I can recall in Italy.

Reading what's happening in the USA & the U.K, looks like a 6 month booster shot is coming on top of the double jabs. I am no medico, but if the flu jab we get every year going forward includes a Covid booster, and that's the new normal, then so be it.

Mate we we know youre not in teh hoax camp

How come Dan wont let the vaccinated out of their homes?

I suspect no one has the balls to be the first one to start the privileges for the vaccinated culture war (short of picnics for five).

The discourse when we get to the inevitable point of having to be vaccinated to go to the footy/pub etc. is going to be horribly tiresome.

Do they want to ever release restrictions and provide freedoms to the vaccinated?

"Health officials": Once we get to 70% of adults with a single dose in their arm, we will ease restrictions.
A couple of weeks later: Actually make that 16+
And then: Actually make that double dose.
After few more weeks: Now we're thinking 80%.
Recently: Hang on, lets include 12 year olds and up.

General Public: Right, so now we need 80% of everyone aged 12 and up to have a double dose before we will ease restrictions?

Australian Medical Association, not so fast people....
Lets add a further 2 week delay after you hit that target.

(Source: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-09-16/ ... /100465462)
The Victorian branch of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) is calling for COVID-19 restrictions to remain unchanged until two weeks after 80 per cent of people aged over 12 years are fully vaccinated, labelling any other approach "reckless".

They keep shifting the goal posts.

This is what breads mis-trust and helps the anti-vaxxers, anti-lockdown, anti-restrictions types sell their narrative.

The vaccine doesn't work immediately.

Even when vaccinated you can contract and transmit it.

The remaining 20% unvaccinated ( +/- 5m people ) could, conceivably, have the virus run rampant through them completely overwhelming the health system.

Methinks - Open up some restrictions to those vaccinated, those unvaccinated who weren't soon realise they better and go get it done while the anti-vax brigade assemble Julian Burnside and his cronies to take the gubinment on.

I don't disagree with you.
But they should have set it at 2 weeks after 80% of everyone from the start.
And if what you say is true (which I think it is), then 80% shouldn't be the number either, it should be 100% shouldn't it?
And if they are willing to open up for the vaccinated later (to encourage more people to get jabbed), why can't they open up for the vaccinated now?

Stop trying to poke holes in things. It makes perfect sense. Golf is more strenuous than a picnic, you'll breath heavier and are more likely to spread covid playing golf than enjoying a picnic!

SO they want us to get to 80%, where do you think it will end up? 90% a stretch?

My line is be very careful until 80% of the entire population is vaccinated then tell the anti-vaxxers that they have two weeks to think about it after which the risk is on their own heads. I also think the AMA is on the right track.

I just turned down an attractive contract to work in a hospital service in Victoria in October and November because I think NSW and VIC. are going to rush the opening up and have to lock down again. I don't want to risk being not able to get back into SA in late November. (Looking at the WA options instead.)

I'll be surprised if we got to 80% fully vaccinated.

5-8% anti vaxxers, 3-5% religion based, 3-5% just reluctant, 3-5% just lazy.
