keep us posted closer to october carey!

I've got a buggy mate we could do 9 holes in just over an hour!

Anyone here a member of Glenelg? They have a new membership brochure out and the Pinehill membership intrigues me. $350 per year gets you access to the practice facilities and 6 rounds per year at restricted times??

Qantas frequent flyer members can join their affliated golf club. Free membership available of the golf club allows you to earn points booking rounds through the website. For $250 per year they will also throw in maintaining an official handicap plus extra benefits.

2 courses available in SA, Tanunda and Wirrina.

Thought this was of some interest and this thread was the best spot for it - mods please move if this is incorrect.

From the Mount Barker Courier.

The Mount Barker-Hahndorf Golf Club is under "financial stress" after a hike in administration costs and a drop in membership, causing the towns council to take over part of the club's finances.

The club's former treasurer, said the club had lost up to $150,000 over 12 months after an $80,000 increase in administration (WTF) costs combined with a 10% decline in membership renewals.

The Mt Barker council confirmed it was now preparing the golf club's financial reports...

The club lost 56 of its 500 members last financial year.... and another 140 members had not renewed their memberships as of March 2016.
The former treasurer said that the club was also still paying off $484,000 mortgages which have been outstanding for over 20 years. The club also pays $6,000 per month to the tax department after "getting behind on our GST".... good job, the former club manager was an accountant!

The Mt Barker golf club president dismissed any claims that the entire golf club would be handed to the council as a going concern.... The president had discussed the possibility of selling a section of the course, worth about $3m, to housing developers. Lost golf holes would need to be replaced on council-owned land on Bald Hills Road, alongside the planned $32m sports hub which is planned.

Mt Barker Council infrastructure spokesperson commented the golf club is an important community asset and we want to see that asset continue and prosper.

All clubs are facing similar issues. Given the way the whole State of South Australia is going at present it is no surprise that Golf Club membership is the first thing cut out of people's budgets.

I think the problem is the total cost.

Cash flow is a huge problem for most people so shelling out a large lump sum in one hit deters a lot of people. So even though its cheaper and good value if you play regularly, it still doesn't make it financially attractive really.

Where I think clubs really miss out is there Green Fees to the public. A lot of places are give or take around $35-$40 a round, which for a one off, yeh it's not too bad. However it isn't exactly an attractive or enticing number that really encourages people to come back and play.

For someone trying to get into the sport but is not convinced its for them, buying a membership is not a realistic option, but lets say they want to play once a fortnight to see if they get a little better and keep enjoying the sport (leading to hopefully buying a membership).

$40 per round x 6 hits (over 3 months, which still probably isn't enough to encourage new players) is still going to cost them $240, plus Clubs (hire or buy) balls, gloves etc.

Thats not exactly cheap to try and get started in a new sport.

It's not as if fairways are packed and people can't get on, so they cant charge a premium for a low demand product.
A few clubs did a twilight price after looking around during daylight savings, things like $15 for as many holes as you can fit in, and that works...

$10 for 9 and $20 for 18 would certainly get casual players on the course more often than they are now IMO.

There is always the public course season ticket option for those who want a cheaper introduction to golf membership.

Regency Park for example you can get 1 year/ 6.5 days per week unlimited golf for $650. Great value for the casual golfer

Its a reciprocal agreement between the 2nd tier Metro clubs ( Blackwood, Flagstaff, Mount Osmond, Tea Tree Gully, The Vines of Reynella and West Lakes). From memory its 3 games per year at each club apart from your home club, although I could be corrected as I'm too lazy to collect the card from the office.....

Anywhere haha.

Probably somewhere like Kapunda or penfield to start with as they are a bit cheaper and closeish.

But somewhere like ttg in the long run would be nice. Still a long way off finishing cricket hopefully

Do both.... Used to play golf early in the summer, like 7.00am hit off. Finished by 11.00am. Quick bite to eat then off to cricket... Loved it.
