2012/13 NBL Season/Offseason news

It's well known amongst international basketball that chinese refs in China are as dodgy as they come and often pull calls out of nowhere to favour their national side, the refs probably feel they're under a bit of pressure as usually government officials are present for their games and you can understand no one wants to spend the rest of their lives in a gulag somewhere!

I remember one time in the early-mid 2000's the Sydney Kings were doing a tour of China and played a game or two against the chinese national team, the Kings were getting screwed all game with dodgy calls but fought through it and a Kings player ended up hitting the game winner with about three seconds to go. Kings won by 2. The refs ruled it 'illegal' and declared the game a draw! No overtime nothing and all their players just quickly walked off. Fair to say Brian Goorjian wasn't happy but knew he had to bite his tongue a bit.

In saying all that this Boomers team would be well versed in what to expect from the refs in China but being a young side and most having never played there before weren't really ready for it. From what I heard they played positively & aggressively all game but when the dodgy stuff started in the 4th they dropped their heads a bit and started playing more conservatively.

Game 4

China 88 def Australia 81 (Bairstow 15, Gliddon 13, Goulding 13, Gibson 12)

Series tied 2-2

Technically I think the Boomers won the series on superior point differential 289-264.

He has played with the NZ Tall Backs, does that count as an import?

He used to play for the Breakers, big body but not much game. I guess that spells the end for Pero as back up centre.

He's a kiwi and they're considered locals not imports, certainly wouldn't want to blow an import spot on him!

Hopefully it's true it would make the 36ers legit championship contenders.

In other news the Cairns Taipans have announced that foundation player Aaron Grabau has decided to retire. He has been there from the club's inception in '99 and was also the only active former Geelong Supercats NBL player.

Another retirement today with Sydney Kings centre Ian Crosswhite calling it quits.

Had been rumoured for a few weeks now but still a surprise when someone retires prematurely at 30 and could've played at least another 2-3 seasons.

Gary Ervin officially signs with sixers.

I think they make grand final this season.

Not just basing on Ervin.
