It would open up serious space in the cap. Thoughts on who we might pursue, or leagues/colleges we might scout?

It's unfortunate but with the personal and team success he had this season I suspected he wouldn't be back with us next season. If you're a player especially an import with no real vested interest in the league and you know a guy worth a couple of hundred million is pumping money into the league and helping out a few teams too the player or his agent starts expecting ridiculous money. The Sixers have a new majority owner now too an expat based in Singapore who isn't short of a quid too which wouldn't have 'helped' in keeping his price tag down.
The talk was all offseason that Randle was dead serious about trying to crack the NBA next season and was holding off signing with any team until at least after NBA Summer League in July in the hope of getting a training camp invite from an NBA team. In the interim whilst playing in France supposedly Melbourne United offered him a deal that was a little too difficult to believe (real or not who knows) and now this news comes that we never offered him a contract for next season i.e. the club weren't willing to come near his asking price and that's that.
I could go on about the pros and cons but to be honest I was more concerned with getting Sobey to come back than Randle. There are quite a few Randle types out there look at Bryce Cotton, Casper Ware even Kevin Dillard even just in the NBL this past season but locals like Sobey are few and far between. You've got to lock down your Aussie core especially after finishing the regular season top of the ladder which we did. All 8 of those guys are coming back next season just swapping out the three imports.
Imports as we all know can be hit or miss they're all relatively unproven until they're not look at Steve Blake 13 year NBA vet yet was barely back up PG standard yet Bryce Cotton hardly made a dent in his two years in the NBA yet stood out like dog's balls here. They're a mixed bag and even as good as Randle was in the owners shoes I wouldn't be prepared to hand him a blank cheque. He was on good enough money maybe give him a slight raise if not well go and get more in Russia.
The talk is we've got ex-United import Ramone Moore lined up essentially to replace Ferguson which would be an upgrade then if we're able to get an upgrade on Jacobsen which in theory shouldn't be too difficult and then you don't need Randle-like numbers out of Randle's replacement. I could go on but Joey's freelance run and gun system IMO was a big factor in making Randle the star he was in this league, I'm not sure Randle really understands that though.

THE Adelaide 36ers have refused to mortgage the club’s future on league MVP Jerome Randle, despite making an offer which would have kept him among the NBL’s highest-paid players.
In two seasons with the Sixers, Randle, 29, led the NBL in scoring, was twice an All Star Five First Team selection and this year won the MVP award after averaging 21.3 points and 5.4 assists.
An unsourced report saying Randle was not made an offer by the 36ers before departing to play for Limoges in France, was hotly disputed on Tuesday night by Adelaide coach Joey Wright.
“Yes, an offer was made to Jerome initially that still would have made him among the top-five highest-paid players in the league,” Wright said.
“Last season he was in the top three.”
