Unfortunately we were outscored 49-34 in the second half they cranked up the defence and we ran out of puff and went back into our shells playing like we usually play against the USA like a deer in headlights. Still a lot of positives to take out of the first half if we execute and just treat them like any other opponent we can hang with them.

USA 98 (Anthony 31, Irving 19, Durant 14) def Australia 88 (Mills 30, Bogut 15, Andersen 13, Dellavedova 11)

The 10 point loss equals our best result against them when we lost by 10 to them at the Athens Olympics however this USA team is certainly a better team than that one which went on to finish 3rd.

Not what I would call ideal but the Boomers have drawn Lithuania in our QF clash on Wednesday night. If we were to win that supposedly we would play the winner of Croatia vs Serbia in the Semi-Finals but first thing first we need to get past Lithuania who have a very good record against us in Olympic play and have beaten us in the Bronze Medal Game twice 1996 in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney.

Quarter-Finals

QF 1 - Australia vs Lithuania 11:30pm Wednesday night

QF 2 - Spain vs France 3am Thursday

QF 3 - USA vs Argentina 7:15am Thursday

QF 4 - Croatia vs Serbia 10:45am Thursday

Less than 2 hours to go until Boomers vs Lithuania starts!

In NBL signing news today the Hawks announced the signing of their third import Marvelle Harris a 6'4" SG who leaves Fresno State University as the school's all-time leading scorer and the Cairns Taipans have signed their second import Fuquan Edwin a 6'6" SF who played in Israel last season.

An outstanding game of basketball by us, such awesome defence throughout along with hot starts by Mills & Delly. We were just relentless all game now just one win away from the Gold Medal Game. Next up we play the winner of Croatia vs Serbia in the Semi-Finals.

Australia 90 (Mills 24, Baynes 16, Dellavedova 15, Ingles 10) def Lithuania 64 (Kalnietis 12, Kavaliauskas 12)

The way this team has come to play is absolutely sensational. I completely wrote them off before the start of the games. I thought it would be just more of the same. Now just one more win guarantees a medal. I know anybody would prefer a silver over a bronze medal but I've always thought it would be a better feeling to win your last game and get the bronze rather than lose your last game and get silver. Still a huge game against Croatia/Serbia before we can think about that.

It's all set up for us we get Serbia who we beat by 15 earlier in the tournament a win go into the gold medal game and guaranteed medal but if we lose then probably play Spain in the bronze medal game and they would be favourites.

Very disappointing Semi-Final performance by the Boomers we were never in it and Serbia's defence in the first half when they held us to 14 points was incredible. Still a possible first ever medal at an Olympics is still on offer in the bronze medal game against Spain after they lost in the other SF to the USA by 6 points.

Serbia 87 (Teodosic 22, Markovic 14, Macvan 12, Raduljica 11) def Australia 61 (Mills 13, Motum 13, Ingles 12)

Bronze Medal Game

Australia vs Spain 12am Sunday night

Gold Medal Game

USA vs Serbia 4:15am Monday
