Mrs Ian would like band/guitar hero too mate as you can sing on that.
Zac would probably want a PS3 or Xbox as better for hard care gaming but I'd recommend the Wii for your family mate, you'd get much more use out of it as a family and do a few fun things together.
Plus we can lend you HEAPS of games! :D
Ive got at least one game I could give you too as I have 2 of them.
I could also lend you my PS2 if Mrs Ian wants to give all the singstars a bash as it never gets used these days.

Depends on what you want to play.
Wii is great for families and has a top range of interactive games. You have band, Guitar heroes and rock band on wii also.
the only downside i find with the wii is graphics but that is no biggie.

Xbox 360 awesome console I own 2 great rage of games and lots of fun. Good range of adult games as well as sport games.
Downside no blue ray and red ring of death. Which is when they over heat.

I got my wii first so I have always prefed the wii but i spend more time playing my 360 of late.

WE have a Wii at work.

Bowling seems to be the favouite.

I work in a nursing home.

I can recomend this console for any family environment.

My friends kids like the X-Box. X-Box live..?

My son (32yrs) prefers Playstation3.

I prefer Computer net games.

Warcraft.

Look deeper and maybe try at sales outlets...?

The wii is the way to go, we got one for our RSL club, something for the members kids and Grandkids to play when they are having a drink, got Tiger Woods 10 for it now the golfers play it and there is no time for the younger ones to get on it.
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting

I love the Wii. Endless hours of fun IMO. The balance board creates a brilliant new gaming experience.

But if you're more of a hardcore gamer, the XBOX or PS3 are the way to go.

If Rock Band / Band Hero is a priority, I'd say go for the PS3 or XBOX. That way you can buy Band Hero (Better quality hardware - drums, guitars etc) and still play the Rock Band game. On the Wii, you cannot play both games with one set of hardware unfortunately.

Sorry, other way round. You can't use Rock Band instruments with Band Hero.

BUMP, any more opinions?
We dont need the Blu-ray or TV recording facilities the PS3 offer.
Im thinking the Xbox looks basically the same value but for a lesser price.
BUT I need to factor in Xbox Live Gold into the price.
I suppose it then comes down to the games exclusive to each console versus the not so big price difference.
Thoughts?

PS3 is the way to go. Awesome if you want to play online gaming.
My XBox 360 broke and so did my mates. Only had it a year. Typical Microsoft product.

PS3

It is the only true next gen console.
The range of quality games that are exclusive for the PS3, far outweigh any other reason to buy the XBOX.
I will mention it once, the Wii isn't worth mentioning. PS3 Move after playing the demo disc, is a far more precise motion technology. All though yet to have the range of games, it's only 6ish months old compared to a few years.

Free PSN
Rechargeable control
Wireless
Insert the disc (rather than the 90's version tray)
The motion controller is mapped to the dead centre of the screen from any angle (not PS Move motion)

Metal Gear Solid 4
inFamous
Gran Turismo
Killzone
MAG

Then the other stuff, Blu-Ray, Media etc.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

Yeah but none of those games interest us and we don't need a Blu ray or media player.

Are the graphics/sound noticeably different between the 2 on a big screen?

(Personally I don't see the appeal in either compared to a PC which is my "console" of choice)

Those were just 5 games that I mentioned that aren't on any other console.
Then theres

Uncharted 1 & 2
God of War 3
Heavy Rain
Resistance 1 & 2
Motrorstorm 1,2 & 3
Little Big Planet
ModNation Racers
Demons Souls

Arguably the best game on the 360 is Call of Duty (Why??? :-?? )......that's on PS3.
As are Madden, NBA etc.

Splinter Cell is coming to PS3
Mass Effect I believe is on the PS3 now

I honestly don't know why anyone would buy a 360.
