I'd say it's out of memory.

How much RAM are you running?

How do i increase the memory can i delete things from the computer to improve the amount of memory. eg, i have over 1000 songs on the itunes on it. by getting rid of a heap of unwated songs would that help.

I have no idea about computers.

Download a program called startup inspector. You can stop programs that start running automatically when you turn on your pc that aren't necessary . It may help.

You aren't running out of hard drive space (well you might be, but I doubt it - 1000 songs isn't much). You are running out of RAM.

You can buy more RAM, but I really suggest getting someone who know what they are doing to look at your computer.

In my XP Pro days I found this sort of thing could be helped by changing memory management settings from the default of letting Windows manage the swap file to creating a fixed optimum size swap file, preferably on a second HDD. It still helps with my old Core 2 duo lap top running Vista even though that has only one HDD.
(The new i5 desktop has 4GB RAM and Windows 7.)

Time to upgrade your old 386.... ;) :D

IMHO : When your computer gets a couple of years old, it struggles with the latest advanced internet games.

Technology advances very fast. Keep up or keep playing Atari space invaders. :D

Todays games are far better than PONG.... :D

They take you to another world. :D

When my computer reaches 2 years old, I donate it to my local church group. :D

By contrast I kept my AMD64 3200+, running XP Pro, from 2004 till 2011 when it blew its mobo - then I bought my current i5.
I used the old machine, and an old mobo, to make a cheap XP machine for a friend who couldn't afford a new one - it is working fine.
(Of course it is being used for a mere University course, not for playing games. ;) )

they can last a lot longer than 2 years dogger. mine is about 5 years old with only a new hard drive (cos the old one died) and an upgraded video card and it runs SWTOR perfectly on high settings. mind you when new it wasnt just a out of the box Harvey Norman special, it was custom built but it actually cost less than a "gaming" machine from somewhere like Harveys.

it certainly was better for me. but i am lucky that i have a relative that can build them and knows what he is doing (i have absolutely NO idea). i gave him a budget (he actually laughed at me and said it wont cost that much!!) and told him what i wanted it for.

he researched the prices and about a week later we went shopping. went to 2 different places (one was MSY, dont remember the ohter one) and the parts cost about $1600 from memory. he put it all together and installed the os etc for me, and i just gave him some cash for his time.

much better system than anything "out of the box" and as i said the only changes have been a new hard drive as the old one died, and a new graphics card. If i had to get a new one ill be doing the same again, or more likely just upgrading this one further. i wouldnt mind upgrading a few things now, but that is just a vanity thing, it works perfectly as it is, i just want it faster!! (i also suspect that it is now my internet connection slowing things down, more than my hardware, bring on the NBN!!)
