Has had so much on his plate in the last few weeks.
Housemate did the bolt.
Debt collectors caught up with me.
Missus started working.
Flat out at work.
Family in hospital.
Family dramas because of the above.
Footy full on.
Friendship debacles.

Taking a moment to breathe today, and realising it is my birthday tomorrow.

Thanks lads. Worrying times for parents of this age group with the dangers they face, you just have to back yourself that you have done the right thing and have educated them well.

We have a great relationship and talk pretty openly about alcohol, drugs and lifes challenges, the decisions they will need to make either calculated or on the spot.

I'm not naive enough to think kids dont always listen to their parents, I know that, but I'm confident he will make good choices.

Fisho is writing in here because... I couldn't decide whether to put it in 'Things I rate' or 'Things that give me the s***s'.

My book... my novella that I wrote in six weeks when I was ill... the one set on the island of Hirta in 1727... I submitted it to a competition run by Griffith, one of the most prestigious literary journals in the land of Oz. It didn't win... wasn't even longlisted... but I was told today that it made the first and second cuts, and just missed the long list. Out of over 200 entries, it was one of the top twenty or thirty. I'm glad... glad because it was only a draft at best that I sent in - at six weeks I couldn't polish it up as much as I wanted to - and I must have some raw talent to get that far at least. But I'm low, and unhappy, because I wanted to win that damned competition and I wonder if I'll ever have what it takes. I'm meant to be staying off the grog but at the moment I feel just like going and getting drunk. ](*,)

Gee sorry to hear that Fisho. Maybe try another book competition? Plenty of shithouse books get published so I'm sure with your gift of the written word it will get there soon. Have you tried submitting it to all the various publishers?
