But apart from that, they are great ! Is Motlop still coaching there ?

Spot on. Clinton can seriously play the game when he feels like it.

Clinton has big wraps and never delivers-will not train-gives nothing back to the club and clubs should not be silly enough to pay the big money to him just because he is a tall.
Moon injured early and probably not seen him at his best in BLG.
Freeling a worry as not many ins and a few outs-hope they have a few late in's or it could be a long year for the farmers.

What where the results.
I see on the SAAFL Div 2 forum Willaston beat Kilburn and that is a bit of a surprise given the Donnybrooks losses this year.
I am sure Kilburn will claim they had players out and that is the reason they lost but again it shows that BLG teams could compete in SAAFL Div 2 and 2 or 3 be very competitive in SAAFL Div 1.
Maybe O'Connor can get the best out of the team and give them some discipline and structure.
Still not many clearances through are some teams holding onto them for some reason?

Willaston played a hybrid Kilburn/Tantanoola side. Only 7 from Kilburn's A grade side, don't know what grade some of the Tant boys were, probably a mix though. No clue who the Donnies had out. Short story, wouldn't read much into it.

Donnies had a fair few big boys and you would think will stretch teams with their height. Dropped a few marks(as you would expect in a trial) but if they start clunking them, watch out. Big guy called Willow could be dangerous if switched on and bloke called Jones is massive. Had a few other quality players around the ground.

Maybe ask O'Conner for his thoughts. Little birdy told me he reads this every now and then.

South Gawler played Mallala at Mallala on Sunday in a "6 quarter" type game. Looked like the B's played the first half, the A's the second half. I think South's B"s won but Mallalas A's won fairly easily after getting off to a great start. Won most of the hitouts and clearances from the middle and have some handy big fellas up forward (and a small one who kicked the first 3 goals of the game?).

There was probably a 4 goal breeze down one end which Mallala kicked with twice but the black and white looked like they really wanted to win the game. South were very flat. Both sides missing a few key players but a good hitout on a glorious sunday arvo.

I was out there buddy, I think I'd be a fair judge on this one. It didn't seem like much on the sideline but it was very prominent on the field.

I have heard from a couple of the BLG Umpires that the league has voted to implement the AFL's new rule regarding forceful contact below the knees.

I watched the crows game Friday night and I certainly didn't like the rule. Can't see it being too popular in the BLG if it is policed as strictly as the AFL...

Such a shit house rule. The AFL is deadset going out of its way to take the toughness out of the sport.

Uncle Sam, I'm keen to find out if you organised the trial game between Broadview & Tanunda to see which league is better.

Hardly an indication on which league is better. Broadview who will be middle of the pack in div 1 against top 2 team in tanunda, not to mention its a trail match and neither team would be full strength or playing there proper structures or players in correct positions. Just face it that bl&g is not as good.

Having watched a few years each of BL&G and Div1 footy, I'd say that the top 10 players in each competition are comparable, but that there is more depth in the 11-21 players in the Amateurs.

However, we shouldn't be selling the BL&GFA short, as I believe it is quite a good standard competition.

There was a fair bit of rivalry on another post (APPS amendments for SAAFL Res players & country clubs) between the 2 leagues & a challenge was set & I was really hoping that it would be followed through with.

That idea sounds great in theory, but when and how would it come about?

Does anyone know when The Bunyip is doing their 'Winter Sports Preview'? I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one when it's out.
