Talking to a friend who is a Melbourne member, she says Schwab should have gone earlier as it was him who forced Scully out of the club after a disagreement with him

Saw something pretty unusual at the shops yesterday.

War-torn immigrant wearing a Melbourne scarf and beanie.

Fled from one disaster zone to another.

Poor b@st@rd.

Dog_ger, you have raised a pertinent point.
Ron 'Hitler' Barassi has been very quiet during all of this. Given his very, very strong historical connections to the club and his family's involvement in the legend of Melbourne, you'd have thought there would be something from him.
Is there a bridge that needs to be mended? Anyone know?

Surely he has nothing left to prove. We aren't talking Gazza Lyon here. Barassi did put his reputation on the line when he coached the Demons in the early 1980's.

I'm not saying he has to take over the reins, or prove anything. He's proved more than any of us ever have.
However, he could provide a bit of that ol' Demon passion. Be a rallying point, negotiator etc, who can help get his club off the mat. The man still has fire in the belly, that's for certain.

Nah, I don't rate the Bullies in the same place as Melbourne and the Saints.
Bullies are battlers, always have been, always will be. They do their best with what they've got.
Richmond are a strange breed, just can't make the finals (although that seems to be about to happen).

Saints and Demons, on the other hand, just can't help but find ways to shoot themselves in the foot. If there's a way to do something wrong, they'll find it. Sad to watch sometimes.

Some would say thats exactly what Richmond do. Look like world beaters (often early in the year they are) and then somehow manage to drop a game here and there and miss finals action.

IMO, they would be the most frustrating team to support.

Sure the Tiges f up, but they don't do it in the way the Saints and Demons do.

And besides, they've got the best theme song in the AFL.

My point was more 'leave the guy in peace, he's done more than enough'. Links back to the glorious past have a place but the passion has to come from within, when the players say 'enough is enough'

eg...

Geelong 'pact'
Hawthorn 'line in the sand'
Lions 'if it bleeds we can kill it'..

that sort of thing.
